It took me over a day to decide that which places should actually be listed down here. India being a beauty in itself made this task so difficult. But nevertheless, here is a filtered list of places you must visit once in your lifetime.
Wagah
Widely known for its Border Ceremony, Wagah is a village near Amritsar. The Border Ceremony or The Beating Retreat Ceremony is performed by the security forces of India and Pakistan wherein every evening both the forces perform parade at their ends and then lower their respective flags. It’s a very spectacular ceremony and is a must visit.
Andaman and Nicobar
If you are fantasizing a serene beachside vacation, Andaman and Nicobar is your destination. These islands belong to the outskirts of the country with around 30 beaches and islands all together. Water sports like scuba diving and jetty rides are other great attractions there.
Ajanta Ellora Caves
Ajanta Ellora Caves situated are situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. These caves take you to one huge ride to the past. These 30 rock-cut Buddhist Monuments were built in 480 CE (Common Era). Ajanta Ellora Caves have been UNESCO World Heritage Site and are one of the major tourist attractions in India.
Mcleodganj
If trekking is something you like, this is the place for you. Mcleadganj depicts a very different side of the country. In addition to trekking on the Triund Hill, you can also shop at the chain of Tibetan Market or just hang on for a cup of coffee at one of the numerous cafes. McleadGanj is also famous for Tsuglangkhang Temple dominantly visited and managed by the Tibetan population. Some more attractions like Dal Lake and St. John in the Wilderness (Anglican Church) makes McLeodGanj a must visit place in the country.
Goa
Party souls are going to love this place! With some or the other event and festive
going on throughout the year, Goa has become the ultimate party destination of India. You will find variety of booze and shopping destinations. With around 50 beaches, 60 churches, numerous resorts and variety of water sports you just cant get over this place soon.
Mumbai
If you want to witness the hussle and bussle of a city blended with composure, then Mumbai is the place for you. Take midnight walk on Marine Drive or just explore Heritage sites, this city has lot to offer.
Kashmir
Also known as "heaven on earth", this place succeeds in proving its tag right. Kashmir witnesses snow in major proportion of the year and attracts around thousands of tourist. Kashmir has a number of spectacular lakes, temples and Masjids. River rafting is one of the major attraction here.
Kerala
Kerala is also known as God's own country, this is because every nook and corner of this state has a either a Hindu temple, a mosque or a Church. Kerala is quite famous for its Boat Race that takes place in harvesting festival during the month of july and august.
Sikkim
Sikkim is all about trekking, hiking, bird watching and spending splendid days in Himalayas. Explore the Kanchanjunga falls or visit the Ranka Monastery, this place is the ultimate destination for peace seekers.
