When my father took a family photo, he knew that his children and their children's children would see it. When I take a photo today, I may be the only person who will ever see it.
Back in the day, content creation was a privilege of the few, because distribution channels were scarce. Today with the abundance of content and communication channels, attention became scarce.
Steem was the first to recognize the importance of curation. Users who upvote the post share up to 25% of total post rewards. And this has had a profound effect on reader engagement.
For example, when WordPress bloggers re-post to Steem using @steempress, their messages start to receive many more comments and likes. In fact, authors appear to value reader engagement over the revenue.
According to multiple studies, authors get a jolt of dopamine when they receive likes or new followers. In a way, when a post is being appreciated by the audience, the author experiences a feeling that can be compared to that of a hug (or more).
Original creators of Steem envisioned it to become a blogging platform with thoughtful posts, but today we can see that short-form content is becoming way more popular resembling other social media sites. Maybe that is another reason to tip the benefits in favour of curators.
Some Steem witnesses also advocate increasing curation rewards up to 50% to reduce the proliferation of content indifferent voting behavior. In fact, we might be at the verge of such a change.
To sum it all up, there are three factors that speak loudly in favour of increasing curation rewards:
- Grow user engagement;
- Authors would not object (dopamine is more important ;-));
- Reducing profits of content indifferent voting bots.
So, what do you think should be the share of Curation Rewards?
a) 25%
b) 50%
c) 75%

if the curator got 75% than nobody would put any hard work to create content. everybody would just vote anything just to receive the curator reward. Coz everybody are on steemit for the money.....25% is pretty fair...

75% is a little hard to digest, but if it's like YouTube comments with 100s being common, maybe that makes the most sense...

Generally, I look with suspicion to arbitrary selected hardcoded coefficients. A proper system should have it automatically adjusted based on some other KPIs (like average number of curation actions per post across the platform).
But if to select one of these choices, I'd agree with C.

I do question how increasing the curation rewards received by bots (and therefore bot owners), would discourage those bots upvoting indiscriminately. I personally can't see bot vote buyers changing behaviours enough to make a big difference.

Maybe 50-50, because one can't exist without the other. And I recognize that it is super rewarding when you invest time in publishing something of your own and receive votes and comments, to know that someone was interested in what you told.

So let's see: Someone spends 1-3 hours a day carefully creating high-quality content, whether blog root posts or comments. Someone else mindlessly spends 15 minutes upvoting however much his Resource Credits allow, pretty much indiscriminately, but certainly not wasting time actually reading anything. And they should be rewarded equally?

Another example: an unknown musician created a song; but if nobody hears it, creator will not get anything. And then an established influencer comes and promises to promote it, but collect 90% of all earnings. What is the best course of action for the musician? Should they collect 100% from zero, or 10% from something?

Creators often have agents for that very reason. But an agent gets what, 15%? Even if it's 25%, assuming that's the industry going rate, I agree 75% of something is more than 100% of nothing. But still, an agent works for his fee. A curator who does nothing except literally click links of posts he never sees is essentially a parasite and could more economically be replaced by a bot. Some people do read posts and selectively curate properly -- I'm not talking about them at all.

25/75% curator/author like it is for the moment is pretty much fair BUT, I am thinking if that would change to 50/50 it may be possible that people would vote a lot more other peoples posts and steemit platform would grow a lot faster and be a stronger platform.because many users have difficulties to create good content because of their bad English. but until that is changed we can only guess if it would be better or not.

@waivio sir! am favour of this change that the rewards curve shall be updated from lineal to a “mid-superlineal” n^1.3.
The curation window shall be reduced from 15 minutes to 3
The reward distribution per post should be updated from 75% for authors and 25% for curators to 50% and 50% respectively.
I will go with option B-50%

I think 50% would be nice. In this way author as well as all the curators get equal profit. Everyone is satisfied. And everyone is happy. No less and no more. 50-50, the middle way. 🖖

25%. The author should always get more than curators. Creating content is more work intensive than value content. Furthermore, curation can be automated easily but content creation don't.\n\nI think curation time window should be increased, not decreased. One of the reasons that makes short-form content popular in Steemit is the short curation window, so reducing it will affect the quality of posts even more.
