Hwyl Da University Health Board is reporting today that access was gained without authorization to over 40 patients private medical records. The information was reportedly breached by an unidentified administrator of the network who appeared to be there solely for viewing purposes. It has been confirmed that no amendments were or deletions were made to files in the database.
The hospital has issued reassurances to it's patients and informed them of the safety of their records, but the matter will still be discussed by board member's to prevent further instances of such a breach. Companies and hackers could access such sensitive information too if they were able to breach the database, and use the information to sell for marketing purposes or disrupt documents. Such breaches could be damaging to a persons privacy, and also their ability to receive appropriate healthcare.
Such breaches can be prevented by using blockchain technologies currently on the market that offer distributed ledger data storage like Neblio or Icon. Information stored in them can be encrypted and accessed instantly with authentication, making for more efficient and protected access while retaining communicative links between parties. Also the blockchain technologies for such applications use A.I to authenticate and validate the history of a document, being able to identify tampering or security breaches within seconds.
In other news Careers Wales is launching a new learning portal for students and teachers in hopes of encouraging more involvement in work experience placements. The program has co-operated with 13,000 companies to provide a database of searchable placements, allowing for more appropriate decisions to be made based upon the student's interests or a subjects teachers topics etc.
Broadening the base of companies working in the placement program and enhancing application criteria will increase student attendance to work experience, and also reduce the risk of poverty in later years. Such programs can help students make important developments in working skills and get an idea of what career that they want. It is hoped a more student focused process will make young people feel more valued and invested in.
