Walking Along and Wondering

in walking •  8 years ago

As I walk along the road I wonder,
All the masses of people a-wander,
Going hither, thither in a hurry,
Rushing on to reach a destination.

Where are they all quickly hastening to?
And where are they all always coming from?
What exactly are their heart’s inmost thoughts?
As they go a-bustling helter-skelter.

Some have just received some wonderful news,
While others have been hit by tragedy,
Yet others, plotting evil in their hearts,
None of these obvious as they throng around.

Going in the same direction or not,
Travelling in the opposite way or path,
Standing, waiting together in a queue,
Hardly aware of each other’s concerns.

As they sit side by side inside the bus,
As they pass one another on the way,
Some will never meet each other again,
Still others will forge everlasting ties.

And as the evening time is drawing near,
The streets again begin to empty out,
The large masses who trampled them all day,
Start to return to whence they have all come.

Some will surely be there on the morrow,
Repeating the same motions all over,
Others have moved on to far greater things,
While still some have passed to the great beyond.
