Walk with me, 2: Lake Superior

in walkwithme •  7 years ago

After leaving the Emergency Room yesterday, we went for a walk down to the lake. My trio wanted to skate again, with their booted feet this time, ha!

So, right in front of the hospital is a wave bench and a ship shaped bike rack. Lame pun intended. :)

Another interesting church, Duluth has a lot of old architecture from the late 1800's and early 1900's.

On the way down the hill we happened to see some leaves imprinted into the concrete. I was only able to take two pictures, my trio had better things to do than wait around for a pokey mama.

Every time we cross the freeway to Canal Park we are greeted by this stack. The building reminds me of old 80's movies. Batman probably fought the Joker here.

The Irvin is a ship permanently docked. They have tours in the warmer months and do a haunted ship during Halloween. :)

Lake Superior is a #moodybitch. I love her and her every mood so, so much. Sometimes she's calm and serene, sometimes she's as fierce as the sea. The building there was built and used as a shipping yard. Most of it has been swallowed by #gitcheegami.

The waves from Superior reach over a hundred feet from the shoreline. We get massive storms in the months with the fewest tourists, coincidentally. When she's in her finest tantrum throwing moods.

The entire shore is covered in ice.

These are love locks. Teenagers and tourists love writing their initials and names on a lock, and then attaching them to the wooden decor around here. It's supposed to signify that their love will last forever. At first it was just kind of annoying, but it's grown on me.

And of course, the Canal Park Lighthouse and Fog Horn, one on each side of the canal. That line of darkness on the horizon is Wisconsin. I'm told the cheese people live there.

Brrrr that looks so dang cold!
Any thoughts to leaving the frozen tundra and moving to a warmer state? And owning an RV does not mean you are homeless just houseless, You can have 1,000 problems and a mortgage is not one of them ;-)

It is very cold, BUT! Scary bugs and poisonous snakes live in the south.

is a scaredy cat

Makes me want to break into signing "the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

I've never heard it! There's a model of the Fitzgerald at the museum, along with some items from the wreckage.

Your on the wrong side of the border... lol. It's very popular in Canada by Gordon Lightfoot.

describes the scenery is very beautiful and certainly many tourists who come to the beach because of its extraordinary beauty and certainly want to immortalize their initials there, nice

Beautiful winter scenery. I love the love locks <3
Im glad your son felt better and you all had fun. Xoxo

Such a great #walkwithme! Thank you HickoryMack xoxo I have never heard of, or seen love locks before. The shots you got of them, the lighthouse, and the wood are so great. I like the ice too <3 <3

Thank you!

My phone is incapable of capturing the COLOR of that ice. It's faerie glass blue and just freaking stunning.
