In the last couple days after the ransomeware campaign called 'Wanna Cry' I asked myself who is to blame and will the actors ever get justice?
I mean there's a state sponsored organization called the equation group which had created tools that enable it's users to break undetected into other computer systems. Then there comes another group called the shadow brokers which have the capabilities and resources to steal the toys from the first group which let somebody think they also should be some state sponsored group and some believe they're linked to russia.
These guys where acting real funny and requested 'some' bitcoins for the stolen data/software but nobody cared enough so they decided to release their loot for free to everyone who's interested in.
And if this wasn't enough there was another actor who entered the stage of this charade who thought why not use the dangerous samba exploit to create something more fun than the leak of these files itself and so Wanna Cry came to light.
This malware shows connections to the Lazarus Group which itself is also thought to be a state sponsored group.
And in the end the foolish are we the users. We've to pay ransom and get restricted in our freedom from laws who should prevent so called cyber crimes but how you see, the real actors behind things in a dimension like that are our governments.
If someday there will be incontestable proofs that our governments are responsible for this, will they ever get the punishments they deserve or forced to pay compensation for the victims of this escaped faux pas?(hypothetically question)
But every coin has it's two sides. In this case it's really positive that the increased demand drives the bitcoin price up :D
