The following sentence appears in a July 10 WaPo article about Nancy Pelosi, entitled “Pelosi opens the door, subtly, to replacing Biden”:

“The former speaker is one of a small circle of Democratic power brokers that can effectively pressure the president, multiple current and former Hill aides say.”

It seems to me that “The former speaker,” referring to Nancy Pelosi as the former Speaker of the House, should be written as “The former Speaker,” with a capital “S.”

It also seems to me that “one of a small circle of Democratic power brokers that. . .” should be written as “one of a small circle of Democratic power brokers who. . .”

And, finally, shouldn’t “the president” be written as “the President”?

How would you punctuate the sentence?
