Unnecessary Evil.

What a world we live in, these are dark times, I'd imagine the dooms day clock probably is about a minute to "all hell breaking loose". I'v always been an advocate of peace and alternative means to resolve conflict and at the same time i'v always said "violence should be a last resort, one that is never off the table" but....

Everyday the unimaginable happens, in and around your neighborhood, in your homes or millions of miles away, no matter the distance it's ugly. People getting blown up, fatally wounded or seriously injured. These attacks are always carried out by foot soldiers while the real master mind(s) stay in the shadows plotting their next deadly attack. What motivates them?

Hatred, religious extremism, financial & political ambitions, just plain old madness if you ask me. Whatever the case the outcome of their active or non active participation is a sight one cannot just wish away. The World is constantly at war these days or some random acts of violence, I for one years ago saw acts of violence first hand and thankfully I'm alive to tell the tale.

On one evening about 10 years ago I and my father had taken a walk to buy some fried fish (his favorite) we where about 200 hundred meters from home getting close to a T-junction around my street when we saw people running, bikes & cars almost running each other in a frantic effort to escape, no one stopped to give us any warning, but we got the message as soon as we heard shots ring out from automatic riffles. I managed to catch a glimpse of these men, all dressed in black with masks on, they moved with military precision, letting out rapid bursts of gun fire aimed directly at pedestrians or whatever moved. I and my Father got separated in the confusion, well I couldn't blame him because where I hid behind a newly commissioned public water supply system was away from his sights. I saw him follow a train of people into a building (I honestly think he thought I went in that direction). These heavily armed men numbering six or seven walked as if they where in no hurry. Right then I decided to make a dash for my street and believe me soon as I jumped the gutter I saw parts of the wall I just leapt away from blow away. Shots had been fired in my direction but hell no, ain't no stopping now. I moved like my life depended on it (because it did) luckily I managed to get into my close and get home locking all doors. In the aftermath of it all some people where not that lucky, a young cobbler got shot on his way into my close, it wasn't some robbery attempt, that was my first time seeing what terrorism was about, sadly Nigeria hadn't grasped the concept so everybody thought it was some robbery attempt.

You see that's just my personal experience. People have been in worse situations, kidnappings, ritual killings, ethnic cleansing (Nigeria is currently facing that by the way) religious and racial motivated attacks and all. Google search "videos of beheadings" and you'd see what I mean.

Which leads me to ask; is evil an entity that possess individuals and turns them to a poppet or are humans just capable of carrying out twisted variants of evil by themselves?

Most people feel a sense of security and think "oh well things like that can't happen to me", but look around you "things like that" are getting closer and closer. So thus my question, For Heaven's Sake When Would It Stop? Think about it, talk about it, let everyone around you become constantly aware of the rate of violence and evil the World is experiencing today and maybe you'd understand what times we are in.
