These events are not clear to children. The parents of their friends, or even their own parents, can be called to active service. They look for their teachers and friends, as well as their parents, to feel safe in times of war.

When children begin to study subjects that teach them about the world outside their home, they will need your help to understand it. You may wonder how you can teach your child to go beyond the fear caused by wartime. The good news is that, just as your child learns to read and write, you can also learn to develop resilience, which is the ability to adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or even sources of Stress more shocking.

What are some tips that can help you teach your children resilience? As you use these tips, keep in mind that each child will walk the path to resilience in a different way and you will be guided by your knowledge of their children.

Sometimes the best time to talk can be when you take your child somewhere. Other times, it may be when they are doing homework together, which allows their child to keep their eyes on something else while they talk. When your teenage children ask you questions, answer them frankly, but in a reassuring tone. Ask them their opinion about what is happening and listen to their answers. Do not ignore their feelings, they may say they are scared or express hatred towards the people of a certain country or religion. They can say things that you consider scandalous just to test their opinion. Encourage them to avoid generalities, and be honest with their feelings, but give them messages of hope and encouragement. You can say "I am also a little scared, but I know we are prepared for what may happen and I know we will overcome it." Your child is old enough to realize that you may also feel insecure or fearful, but you should not be in doubt when you tell them you will do what is necessary to keep them safe.
