I am a bit late to the party with the news on that but I decided to write about my experience with WoW and feelings after seeing the announcement.
How and when it all started for me
I do play quite a lot of PC games and even though lately I don’t have as much time due to work and studies as well as my painting hobby, I still do spend a bit of time in front of the computer. There was a time when I used to play a lot a lot more.. In high school I have no idea how I managed to find the time for all the activities I was involved in but gaming was consuming a big chunk of it.. and when I was about 14 years old I started playing World of Warcraft. Once you get involved in that it is overwhelming. It was the first game ever to give you the experience it did and the friendships and memories I made in it are unforgettable. Used to go out with friends from the game quite regularly, visiting each other in different cities.. it was so much fun that it wasn’t at all about the game at some point but for the social aspect of it. I did play for over 3 years and got my account hacked so decided to stop and maybe focus on something else.
The official announcement of legacy servers
The game is now 14 years old.. holy cow! And ever since, a hell of a lot of things have changed and made it a lot easier to “beat”.. a lot less social with the way it works and me aswell as many others just get bored of it really fast. Tried it twice in the later expansions and it took me a month to get completely bored with it..
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a video of the announcement for the new expansion plus something extra.. didn’t even know what it was and how did it get to my youtube feed but I clicked it and watched.. maybe a lot of you that read so far watched the video yourselves. The moment that the person announcing started talking about Ice cream I knew exactly what the announcement was going to be for.. “No way” I thought.. “They wouldn’t!” But they did.. they did really announce that official vanilla wow servers are going to be launched. Then the little reverse trailer was shown and I won’t lie when that dwarf appeared, the same one I remember from the official cinematic from 14 years ago, my eyes started watering up. I couldn’t believe how much the nostalgia have hit me. It hyped me.. it hyped me so much I started watching youtubers and streamers talking about it.. old clips from Vanilla, and then I saw the private servers out there. I never knew there were such good ones out and well.. I couldn’t wait for a year and a half or more for the official Blizzard ones to come so decided to give it a try.
Light’s Hope - classic vanilla private server
I started on the biggest one out there and the hype around the announcement was bringing a lot more people like me into it.. there are 10 000 people online at peak hours. It is crowded.. so crowded it is impossible to level in some territories, but I love it. And I’m already lvl 39 on my undead priest.. can’t wait to get to 60 and get into the end game grind.. and then do it all over again when the official release comes up.
Just look at how packed Orgrimmar is.. and it isn't even a peak hour..
You know when you are so stuffed with work or studies or both in my case.. and you just need to let go for a bit. That is the perfect place for me since it brings me back to a time where I didn’t have any problems with time management.. no bills to think about at the end of the month, no rent.. I just went to school, played games and trained a lot (not a very common combo but I’m an odd one).
I will probably post here and there about my adventures in Azeroth so if anyone is playing you can find me ingame! :)
Goodbye for now! :)
I have played this game since Alpha testing of Vanilla WoW so I know how you feel! In multiple ways. Glad to see another person out there who kind of went the same way i did. The only difference is that i stayed with WoW and have been playing faithfully every day I can and yes there is ups and downs to the game. But still there is no other game like it!

There are interesting features and things that make life a lot easier ingame at the moment. But I just miss the game as it was.. yes it was a massive grind and a lot of useless running while levelling and all but it was quite enjoyable. Played legion just for a month.. got full gear from last raid dungeon plus 3 legendaries without having an active guild or more than 2-3 friends to play with.. It just feels way too easy to get anything and a lot less rewarding in the end.

I used to play back in the day. I think they got off course after about the second expansion... Would have loved to see them add a third faction comprised of all the repressed creatures: pig people, murlocs... Because who wouldn't want to be a murloc?

Haha that sounds like a nice Idea! Anyways I played till the end of TBC and it was a great expansion. Tried the game twice after throughout the years and it didn't keep me for more than a month.

I tried getting back into it, but it's gotten too impersonal and complex. I miss being everyone's "friend," because I could summon! Instance queues and flying mounts really did destroy the social aspect of the game. Linking servers was the nail in the coffin.
Anymore, though, I'd rather be behind my camera than a computer.
