The warnings of Jeremiah to Jerusalem: Neither can you start doing good, for you have always done evil. Jeremiah 13:23

The prophet Jeremiah preached in the Kingdom of Judah during the reigns of Josiah, Jehoiakim, Jeconiah, and Zedekiah. Although King Josiah, with a notable religious reform, had rejected the path of Manasseh who had displeased God for his sins, his death in the battle of Megiddo against the king of Egypt began a very difficult time for the prophet Jeremiah; neither Joachim nor Zedekiah were men who feared God.
The Kingdom of Israel had been destroyed by Assyria and only the Kingdom of Judah was left, and Jeremiah began his preaching with the rise of the Babylonian empire that threatened all the peoples of the Middle East; and the problems did not end here, also the Kingdom of Judah was under the corruption of its ruling class and the people had hardened their hearts to the words of Jeremiah.
The preaching of Jeremiah and the end of the Kingdom of Judah with its destruction is a reminder of the importance of the gift of fear of God, because without it men oscillate between the lack of common sense and madness. The spiritual gift of fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability.
The prophet Jeremiah denounced the errors of the nation, and like the sapiential books, he recalled the two paths of man, righteousness and sin.
And among the most serious sins of the people was the worship of false gods, that is why with these words in one of his oracles he denounced with warnings the idolatry and the abandonment of the law of the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
"And if you ask yourself,
´Why has this happened to me?´—
it is because of your many sins
that your skirts have been torn off
and your body mistreated.
Can an Ethiopian change his skin
or a leopard its sports?
Neither can you start doing good,
for you have always done evil.
´I will scatter you like chaff
driven by the desert wind.
This is your lot,
the portion I have decreed for you,´
declares the LORD,
´because you have forgotten me
and trusted in false gods.´" Jeremiah 13:22-25.
