Living a Zero Waste Life can be challenging. But I have managed to do it with the help of simple life hacks which I learned while living this life. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Use Eco Bags. Eco bags are reusable bags which are presently offered by groceries, department stores and shops. These are made of canvass cloth and biodegradable materials. Instead of plastics, bring these bags while shopping and refuse the plastics. Use small eco bags for beans, nuts, herbs and other small items.
Increase your fresh produce consumption. Go to the farmer's market. Buy fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and herbs. Use your eco bags. Unlike items in the grocery, these fresh produce seldom comes with plastic containers. You can choose the best produce based on ripeness, size and color.
Refuse plastics by purchasing products in glass containers, paper or boxes. Glass containers can be reused. Paper and boxes are easy to compost. The next time you purchase, look for products with packaging that is recyclable or may be composted. Refuse items with plastics. Look for alternatives and do your research.
Buy the big sizes. Sometimes, our favorite products do not have alternatives and they come in plastic containers. Reduce the throwing process by buying the biggest container for this product, preferably 1,000 ml. or more. Avoid sachets and small packaging. These are easy to consume. Try the bigger packaging which will last you months or even years to consume.
Use your why power. Living a zero waste life will be difficult if you wouldn't reflect on the why's of doing it. Write your reasons on a paper and post on your wall. This will remind you why you would like to live this life. Read your reasons everyday and have a bias for action. Soon you will find yourself deciding on items which refuses plastics towards a zero waste life.
