My experiment to recycle grey water

The Western Cape in South Africa is experiencing a severe drought. We are currently on water restriction level 4 which means that we may not use water outside of the home. The raining season started, but not the rain yet.

In all of these, we are collecting all used water - grey water - to water the garden. This let me think - is there a way to recycle water?

Armed with my school science knowledge, YouTube viewing and available equipment at home, I started my experiment.

The water which I want to recycle.

I used an old kettle which I lasted used as a student for hiking and pipe which my wife's work thrown away.

My water recycling system!

It took a while for the steam to work its way down the pipe, but after a while, I saw that the dripping started.

At the end, I got a glass full :)

I tasted it and it tasted horrible! Maybe I did not clean the pipe properly.

Thanks. Appreciate it :)

You could get very sick drinking that water. Bacteria flouts in the hot steam air.

now you telling me....

Hope, there were no poisonous substance in the pipe!!

Me too. But I am still going, so maybe it was not too much.

Interesting. Maybe some of the "bad" stuff boiled off at or below the water's boiling temp? Have you tried it again with a clean pipe? Followed :)
