Poor water quality, a dubious honor for Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; to be sure!

We have been in the news this last week for poor water quality, a dubious honor for Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; to be sure! We are a city of 150,000 people, so you would think that they would know how to provide drinking water by now!

But there is so much algae in the water it tastes terrible, so we are on the news every day with them trying to convince everyone that the water is safe to drink. What a total Joke; of the not funny kind!

I will be glad to be on well water after we get out to the new land, and be done with this overpriced sub standard excuse for water! It would be good to not be forced to buy bottled water, just to get something worth drinking! >:(

I wouldn't be drinking the water if it has algae in it! There should be some kind of federal law regarding the safety of drinking water. Northern Ontario has some communities that haven't had potable water for decades! That is a crying shame in this day and age.

I have a filter for drinking water, but it is still stinky! Once on the Land, I will be on well water, so they can go jump in the lake; algae and all! :D

Well water is definitely a blessing! No more algae!

We will have a half a mile sand filter, drawing from a 50,000 acre lake; got it covered for sure! :)
We Will hit water at 60 feet, solid water at 80 feet, and I am going to 120 feet for the pump. :)

sir smithlabs..that new joint you're setting up has a well on it or are you going to drill one, knowing you probably by hand?

I have to drill one, I figure a post hole digger, I only have to go down 120 feet, LOL! I will hit water at 80 feet, I just want to be sure and have a lot of reserve. The water there is really good quality, because it is basically a sand filter from a big lake. I will have 500 gallons of water above ground in bulk containers, feeding a water system charging pump, for water pressure.

I was going to dig it with a plastic teaspoon, but I just can't find a plastic spoon with a 120 foot long handle.... :)

haha! what a wildman. so you are going to have a drilling rig come in and drill it right?

I have not decided yet, I may use plastic pipe and air over water. The claim it is good to 240 feet. I can make real drill heads here in my shop. :D

sir smithlabs..what in the world does air over water mean? and plastic pipe? what you talk about man?

If you take a plastic pipe, and pump water to the drilling end, and also inject air a foot back from the drill point; you end up with a water based boring machine. As you cut debris loose at the tip, it is carried to the surface by the expanding air bubbles. As this debris (called swarf) comes out the top, the cutting end goes deeper; and the water is settled out, and pumped back down hole to loosen more swarf.

When you get 10 foot deep, you add another piece of Plastic, and repeat the process. The limit depth is air pressure dependent, or about 7 bar (7 atmospheres) which is 210 feet. The down pipe is at a small risk from the pressure being pumped since schedule 80 is 80 PSI, and this is over a hundred.

sir smithlabs! good Wednesday to you! well sir..that's another one of millions of things that I've never heard of before. and you can do this operation yourself or do you need me to come help you out?

It is on youtube, and they drill down to about 40 foot with just water. Air allows you to go deeper and still clear the swarf.

So I will call you, LOL! We shall see, I have a Nephew that wants to put in a well;and I may be able to get him to drill both, and just come up with the hardware. :)
