The Gospel of Saint Matthew relates that after making a triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Jesus taught in the temple, and there the divine teacher gave an important spiritual parable of his ministry, the parable of the two sons.
With this parable Jesus explained that are not the proud and the liars who enter into the Kingdom of God, but those who repent of their errors. Jesus wanted to teach to his enemies, the Pharisees and Sadducees, the true meaning of God's wisdom, and he did so by comparing them to other sinners with less spiritual and intellectual preparation, the tax collectors and the prostitutes.
Jesus began his story by saying that a Father called his two sons to work in his vineyard. The first said no but then regretted his decision and went, and the second said yes but did not go. The first son did the will of his father but the second did not, and the same goes for God. God does not seek perfect men but men who strive to follow the path of righteousness ("Do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12), and on this path men are not exempt from sinning, but sin on this path is not a habit or a custom but an exception. And this is so because the Kingdom of God, the empire or dominion of the divine perfections, is progressive, gradual, and transformer, in other words, this spiritual government is the same culture of excellence: "Be holy, because I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16.
Jesus called sinners to conversion, because sin is painful and condemns men to ruin, only the path of righteousness leads men to their salvation. And finally, to say that his enemies were that son who had said yes and lied, Jesus concluded with what had happened to the one who preceded him in the preaching of the Kingdom, John the Baptist, and so with these words he taught the spiritual fact: "For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him" Matthew 21:32. In the Kingdom of God no one is beyond good and evil, men have to choose between being friends or enemies of Jesus.
