The #1 Trait That All Self-Made Millionaires Have

in wealth •  5 years ago

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

I was reading an article by a researcher by the name of Tom Corley and he found some interesting information when he set out to discover the secrets of self-made millionaires.

He spent an incredible FIVE years interviewing 233 wealthy people with assets of 3.2 million and up. Do you have a guess as to what the major rule they lived by that most "regular" folk don't?

  • Save 10% of all income, at least?
  • Live a healthy lifestyle, in other words, stay in shape?
  • Maintain a healthy diet?
  • Read lots of books?
  • Super efficient time management?

Uh...no. Those are very important but most of us do those.

No, what he found they all had in common was a fixation, a determination.. with some an obsession...with cultivating friendships with wealthy, successful people. Not only that but they also completely black-listed anyone with a negative attitude.

They all refuse to be around people with a victim mentality, blame shifters, or pessimists.

Hey it's the same for us on steemit, right? If someone has a horrible, complaining attitude you try to encourage them but they ain't exactly on your favorite list and you tend to avoid them.

I thought his discover was very interesting and the first thing I thought of was family. Who among us only has positive, encouraging family? lol.

It would be dang near impossible to cut out all negative or self pitying family members for most of us but apparently that's what they did. And it makes sense. Here's what one millionaire said:

“I limit my exposure to toxic, negative people. Some of them may bring you down and infect you with their negativity, which can undermine your ability to creatively find solutions to problems and overcome obstacles.” Well said.

Successful personality traits

All the millionaires interview had at least several of these, some had all:

  • Positive mental outlook: They’re upbeat and optimistic.

  • Gratitude: They are appreciative and focus on what they have, not what others have.

  • Encouraging attitude: They inspire and motivate others to pursue their dreams.

  • Hard work ethics: They take action on their goals and never quit.

  • Health-oriented: They devote time to taking care of their physical and mental health.

  • Humility: They see egotism as a deficiency. (This one surprised me a little).

  • Future-oriented: They invest in themselves and for the long-term, instead of seeking instant gratification.

  • Open to feedback: They accept feedback, and learn from it.

  • Loyalty: They are trustworthy and reliable.

  • Authenticity: They don’t pretend to be someone they aren’t, because they like who they are.

  • Curious: They're always working to improve their knowledge and skills in topics they want to learn more about. Perhaps the library, taking an online class or actively seeking mentors.

Maintaining the connection to the rich

Here are the four main actions the millionaires took to increase closeness to their wealthy friends:

  • Make happy birthday calls: This says to them that they’re important to you.

  • Make life event calls: Like when they just had a baby, got married, experienced a death in the family. Those you reach out to won't forget your kind and thoughtful gesture.

  • Make hello calls: This is about gathering information while at the same time truly getting to know the other person. Hopefully.

This one sounds a little awkward to me. It seems like you'd have to have a reason to call instead of just trying to chat with a super-busy person.

We built up tremendous contacts in our Real Estate business but the reason for calling was always business. Then if they had any personality at all we would start asking them personal questions and they'd take off talkin for 20 minutes! lol.

At that point we had them because they'd enjoyed themselves in the conversation and would know we cared about them. We'd stick out in their mind like a light in the darkness!

  • Network: Participating in nonprofits or trade associations is critical to success. Plus, it’s how you meet influential people who can add to your rich and influential contacts.

I hate to get y'all's hopes up but this is just one machine made for marketing purposes, they say they don't plan on putting these everywhere. People like freshly made burgers! (maybe in the future though).

As for the vending machine, I wonder if I could get McD's to put one in my kitchen? LOL.

Howdy again sk43! That was an article on cnbc.com and this should be the link:

Thanks.

lol! I have a suspicion we'll be seeing more of those McD vending machines some day. The might have to wait until they get little robots to make them fresh.
I'll try to find that article link.

When I was in the work force, I found that the folks that were humoured to have the bucks never carried any cash on them. When there was a collection for a sick or farewell party they never had any money on them to donate.
Is that a negative remark? 😂

lol..no that is an interesting observation. I remember when I saw Donald Trump on a talk show the host asked him if he carried alot of money on him and he said never, he usually didn't even carry a wallet. I think he pulled out his money and he had like $37. lol. Because people around him takes care of all the expenses.

Thank you sirbearbear!

I would say "luck" should also be on that list. I have met some really upbeat and intelligent people that aren't millionaires. A couple of them are really good baristas, though! :-)

Ooh... They need to have a vending machine with real meat patties and a glass window, so you can watch 'em sizzle. Maybe have a bun toaster in there, too.

Of course, up here in MN, they might need a "bun toaster" on the outside, too!

lol..sir fotosdenada you always come up with such funny comments! That is true, I think anyone making it big takes risks and luck is a major factor. I didn't even think about that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see vending machines like that in the future, I think it's going to be amazing. They'll have some tiny robots in there assembling them!

Thanks for sharing all of these information with us! It was fun reading about it, I hope that I will be able to practice that in my life. May you have a great week ahead!

Howdy sir sgbonus! I hope so too and thanks so much for commenting!

Poor me. I guess Jonboy is going to cut me off.

lol! that's hilarious. I can't cut off someone who is so sharp-witted sir Vincent. You couldn't get rid of me if you tried! Well, unless steemit goes away. But then I'd join weku just to harrass you! Mr. Negative huh? lol..no you are many things but that's not one of them sorry, can't get rid of me that easy!

Oh well. I tried. lol

I respect your efforts sir Vincent. lol.

Many Christians would say that the Bible does teach a very negative future, as His people continually fall from the faith, and the wealthy of this world seize more and more control of the levers of power.

What would he say to them, I wonder, my friend?

Howdy mepatriot! Yes I agree about the End Times prophecies and I think we're seeing that forming. Not sure about your question though, what would who say to them, God?

Well, yea...But I was talking about Corley.

oh ok, got it. lol.

good read, thanks

Howdy sir michealb! I think it was interesting as well, thanks so much for commenting!

The one thing that I like in this whole story Sir @janton is to "be yourself"
Drop the mask and just be yourself! So important as most everyone are pretenders. In our work we find the happiest of people living on the streets.
Even today, this morning we went out to drop soup and bread for them and there was not one word of negativity. Only thank you's and blessings to us.
Makes one think doesn't it?

Yes sir, it sure does make one think! I agree, people will tell sooner or later is you are wearing a mask and not being genuine and honest, then your efforts to get close to them fail anyway.

We teach care in the trauma course Sir @janton.
Genuiness always wins the prize.
Blessings!

I agree sir papilloncharity. Otherwise it's a con game and sooner or later the con is discovered and the truth comes out.

Most in life are con games Sir @janton and we walk amongst mine fields as innocent lambs to be slaughtered some time or another.
Blessings!

That's a pretty scary way to put it sir papilloncharity! lol. It's true we have to be very cautious in who we deal with and don't rush into anything.

Toxic souls lie in wait like ravenous wolfs around every corner my friend.
The rich is wise to avoid them, but in our line of work we encounter them almost at every turn. That's the reason why they are not rich. The "poor me" and "why me" mentality drive them to pull all others down that they encounter.
Blessings!

Very treacherous waters for ministries down there isn't it? That is a shame.

That was interesting to read and may add that they have common sense, something that lacks among many.
It reminds me about Dragons' Den and Shark Tank tv shows. Have you seen them?

Howdy again nelinoeva! Yes we have Shark Tank over here but I've never heard of Dragon's Den, is that a European version of the same type of show as Shark Tank? They are very interesting aren't they?
I agree, common sense is vital, thanks for the great addition to the list.
I also think at least some Luck us usually involved too and that was not on the list.

Dragons' den is similar to Shark tank and it is in UK and Canada. I like to watch them all. They are very interesting indeed. By the way there is Australian Shark tank too.
Luck also plays significant role, you are right.

Have you or your husband ever tried to do a type of business? I mean besides you doing steemit. It is very risky but exciting too.

I was working always for somebody and I don't consider myself with entrepreneur spirit. 😀
Hubby did different things.

Well that is good too, many people try something on their own and lose everything!

That is one nice yacht

Howdy teenagecrypto! oh yeah, that thing is smokin hot, probably goes for a few million. Thanks for commenting.

Your welcome and have a nice day

I save up money and buy silver in my freetime I'm 18 by the way so I'm stacking early.

Dang teenagecrypto that's great to be stacking at such a young age, good for you. I wish I would've started that early. Where you at, bytheway?

I would say family are just strangers who share a similar DNA pattern, friends are the chosen ones, but I don’t know who you’re referring to in that “horrible, complaining attitude” comment so I better keep that family are strangers stuff to myself. 😉

Hello from Thessaloniki, Janton.

Oh how interesting sir dandays! Thessaloniki! The ancient Biblical city. wow, I gotta get over to your blog and see some travel posts!
Great point about friends vs. family members. lol.

Oh my friend @janton. From here we’re going to Patmos for two days, where John wrote Revelation. Before we land in Rome, we’re going to Israel for 5 days, I’m so excited about it I can’t shut up. I can’t wait! Dead Sea, Nazareth, the Sea Of Galilee where Jesus walked on water, we’ll see where he was crucified, where he was baptized. Oh man I can’t wait.. can you tell I’m excited?

Howdy sir dandays! Sorry for the late reply, been offline working outside all day. Well that is fabulous! I'm excited for you too! For you two! lol.

I guess I can cross M̶ ̶Y̶ ̶S̶ ̶E̶ ̶L̶ ̶F̶ off the Millionaires list....??

I keep telling @pooky-jax we are going to be Centillionaires

A million pennies....

Tubes (Bittubes) are worth .01¢

So we are already 1/500th of the way to Centillionairism...!!!

10k..... 1 Mill Pennies..... (lol)

My Co-Pilot is worth a Million to Me...!!! Even if We did not win that contest.

Posted using Partiko Android

Dang, how many sites are you on anyway? lol. That's hilarious about the Centillionaire!
Only 1/500th of the way. lol.

I am Just on BitTube and Steem mainly. Once in a blue moon I chek in over at GAB / Minds / MeWe. But those 3 are pissin match / my weiner is bigger than yours / ban me censor me sites. Similar to FecesFakeCrookBook / Twatter / GooGhoulagYouTube. You know the Socialist Social Media Liar and thieves sites.

ngqsd8ttwn.png

lol! love that meme! That's like Google saying they are going to filter out the fake news themselves for the good of the people, protect the people. It's all for our own good. lol.
Did you ever look at Weku? I forget if you did or not.

I am on there. Ghost Town. Worthless Token. But not one downvote / unvote.... Lol

Posted using Partiko Android

Ghost town. lol...so it is harder to make connections there than steemit or are you saying you haven't tried there. Everybody I talked to who moved over there loves it so I guess you're the odd duck. lol.

Who You calling a Duck...? Odd maybe... But NO DUCK......I am a Hawk..... A Chiken Hawk. Just ask My Brother, The Red Tail who landed beside me a year or so back.... I was up cleaning the gutters on the garage. I could have reached out my hand and touched him..... To Close 4 Comfort...!!

Posted using Partiko Android

An odd chicken hawk then. lol..THAT is amazing! Did he hang around to watch you work?

I just do not have the time to spend on Weku. I will post from time to time. Besides that, there is no Jonboy over there..... Lol

Posted using Partiko Android

Well I heard they had tons of smart people there, some of the best of steemit went over there and dropped steemit, but I don't know how smart that is for the long run.

When "The Gulag=Google" buries the true search results below payed for half truths, & lies. or even remove them. That is censorship. And nothing more than an Evil Propaganda Site.

Posted using Partiko Android

So true and it's getting worse, that's why they need broken up as a monopoly. Another great meme! Man, you are the KING of those!

I used to be King of the photo shop memes.... Here is one I made with a couple biker friends of mine.

But with the Clown World Libturds in our government pushing to outlaw Memes and in the U.K. you can be charged with a crime for posting them. I guess the end of the Memes is near.

lol! That's hilarious. I know, it's oppressive and alarming how they're limiting speech and expression.
