BAD WEATHER WARNING FOR HEAVY RAIN, STRONG WINDS AND ROUGH SEAS

The depressionis now located in the south-west of Sri Lanka, andexpected to develop further and move away from the island.
Heavy rains and gusty very strong winds (about 80 kmph) over the island particularly in the Southern and South-western areas.
Very heavy falls (above 150mm) can be expected at some places in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central,Uva and Western province.
Heavy falls (above 100mm) can be expected at some places elsewhere.
For sea areas
Very heavy rains, very strong winds and very rough seas can be expected in the deep and shallow sea areas around the island (particularly in the Western and Southern sea areas).
The wind speed can increase up to 90-100 kmph at times.
There is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka at the moment. Department of Meteorology is continuously monitoring such events.
