Canada is not for sissies

Extreme weather is Canada's trade mark. Super hot in summer, freezing cold in winter.

This year, 2017, will be remembered as a year of extremes. A hot, dry summer with wild fires across the province of British Columbia. Several towns had to evacuate; the damage already reaching over a billion dollars.

Summer activities came to a halt right at the beginning of the season - a year without summer!

Winter began in the fall with cold weather and snow on the ground. It is cold outside with temperatures reaching -20 degrees Celsius and about 9 inches of snow on the ground.

As we say in Canada, "We don't complain about the weather, we dress for it."

With all the ice and snow and cold temperatures, life can come to a freezing halt. But that makes the winter even longer - you have to make the most of it. Winter is a great season for outdoors sports. Ice fishing is one of those things.

You drill a hole in the frozen surface of the lake (14 inches thick last week) and drop you hook with bait a few feet deep. See what comes up a few minutes later!
