I saw in the news of CNN that the biggest storm so far in 2018 is in Northeast which resulted in the death of five people, near three thousands fights were cancelled and more than 1 million people lost power. It sounds really bad.

That is very sad for you. :( But it comes up some good things from this. It looks like Norway. Is it? :D

New England, USA.

Wow is that much snow there? 😊

are you a Patriots fan like myself and @aggroed ? haha

I used to be a die hard 49's fan, but after Steve Young stopped playing I stopped watching football. Over the years I started to become a Pats fan so I can enjoy that with my son. I don't like Brady, think he is overrated as he runs like a penguin, but I love the team.

Haha! I loved Brady from watching him play at Michigan. Saw a star that would change the game. And he has! Nice to see ur another pats fan in the mix, i got to meet gronk once we’re the same height but he has like 20 lbs on me lol

Time to get some solar panels. A YMCA membership is always helpful. Shower, WiFi, ect..

Solar has really bad efficiency here, and not cost effective. Plus solar has a 20+ year break even and by then they need to be replaced. Unless you live in ideal conditions, they just are not practical. I'd kill for solar.

The place looks charming .. well done on the pictures
A cup of hot tea would be great
Thanks for sharing

that place would be very cold

You would be surprised, it was 64 degrees a week ago, and 24 degrees last night, and about -10 about a month ago. It's a really bad random number generator out here.

Just got power back, now waiting for the Internet.

Amazinggg ☺️ @themarkymark

Oh, I hope your problems are fixed now or getting at the moment..
I did not know there is such a big storm in the US at the moment, but allthough I have the say the snow looks really beatiful. I like the silence the snow radiates :)
I hope your fine! and at least have some water and heath in your house..
In these moments you can kind of imagine how lost we would be nowadays if civilasation collapsed..

I´m new here and try to get to know some people, have a look at my blog if you want to :)
Greets!

I also guess power is back now.. or you´re posting from somewhere else? ;)

Was this worse for you than the windstorm we had in the fall?

Yeah, quite a bit and that one was bad. In that case, I'd say 75-80% of the town (and likely state) was without power. This case they said 90%.

Interesting, I had very little affect from this last snow storm, didn't even talk to anyone that had power outtages. Must have been very location dependent.

Weird, the lines aren't buried?

Some towns do underground wiring, I really wish they did here as this is a common occurrence. Most still use poles.

Wild, you'd think as they add cable and fibre they'd add power lines too

Cable and fiber are on the poles too lol. After they fix power we can call and wait for internet.

That's really awful. We were without power for two days last weekend and that was long enough. And it wasn't below freezing either, so the pipes weren't a worry. I really hope they get this sorted quick for you.

How did your friend wire up the generator? Did he back-feed through the drier plug?

Just hard wired into the furnace and an extension cord to my office for computer. Use phone for hot spot.

I’m hoping to do whole house generator or at least a transfer outlet for a portable.

That sounds safe enough!

I need to figure out how to wire to the furnace and well pump.

@themarkymark so sorry about this. It might be hard for you all to adjust to the sudden change but it's good that somehow you have improvised a means especially on keeping your foods from spoiling...

On a lighter note tho, in my country.. We are so used to such...
It's our norm..
No light/electricity , no water for a week even some months..
And in some other areas.. Up to a year...

So really y'all are lucky that everything would be fixed back in no time...

In the mean time... Keep exploring different ways to keep your foods and do other things you couldn't do with electricity and water pending when everything gets back to normal...

There is always a point for me. Between 18 and 36 hours where it turns from being an adventure into a serious PIA and it's just no fun.

Here's hoping your power is back really soon.

Wow, this is happening to you and you are still responding to support requests at buildawhale! You are a champ!

It does look beautiful though...

Helping witness with their node as well this morning.

When you make a post, I can only hear Malcolm Reynolds...

if you need to shower you can go to a local truck stop. It only costs a couple bucks. We used to have to do that when we lived out in the middle of nowhere in arkansas and a storm would knock out the power for weeks sometimes.

Less than a month ago, we had a generator hooked up that can power our well.

Looking at your photos makes me glad we did. But Murphy’s law states that now that we have a generator, we will never use it.

Do you happen to have a charcoal BBQ to cook your meat before it’s too late? Maybe a winter campfire with the family?

We hope that your power and cable come back on soon.

Have propane grill that’s burried right now. Might turn it on to cook what’s left.

It easy to say 'Nice photos' to someone who is not there. Tough times for you, but it will be better. Luckily for you, you neighbor help you. It would be super hard without electricity.

but A friend in need is a friend in deed
Glad you kept yourself put,

Sorry for that untoward.incident... I am wondering how you guys manage the cold night and having out of water supply is really a headache.

we were able to go to our neighbors yesterday to shower and picked up drinking supplies that we keep outside. Been mostly ordering out for food. We at the point our toilets are all full now and going to have to travel to go the bathroom.

That's to bad for the weather.. Man, we use to live up in that mess upnorth. But, I am grateful my parents moved us all to Florida in the late 70's. We just have to worry about Hurricanes.. Which are kinda sketchy too. We just had a scare last summer with Irma. But they are few are far between thank goodness. Anyway, I sure hope you guys get back to normal real soon. It was nice of your neighbor to let you use a generator to stay warm.. It's great to see people coming together when in need. There is hope for humanity!!

really worried, snow storm hopefully will soon pass and you and your family will be fine. my country no snow come, so i think snow is beautiful.

And people scoff at preppers?

Very tough situation is faced by you.
I really like snow fall but it is too much.

It's not even a lot of snow, 20" isn't abnormal here, it's just very heavy.

I am so sorry to hear but I really hope that your state will recover fast from this storm...

This is a very sad disaster ... but rest assured there will be wisdom behind this incident. keep the spirit of my best friend @themarkymark
Best Regard @ airil280708.

We up on Vancouver Island just recently got a little dump. I decides to see if that burning snow you see plastered all over youtube was real. I stepped onto our balcony, and packed a snow ball. I brought it inside and my partner held a lighter under it. and we both freaked as it began to smoke and melt back with out dripping. A dark oily burn mark appeared. Is sat. not melting in our sink for hours. Remember...don't eat yellow snow...don't eat ANY SNOW! Especially kids!

I am feeling sorry for your situations and yes sometimes natural calamities can hurt us to deepest level and after natural calamities we firstly face the issues of basic needs and sometimes most of the people face the lack of basic resources after any natural calamities, and i really like how your friend helped you regarding generator and in my opinion this is the real test of humanity when we all come together to help each other even if we don't know them. And it's really interesting to see how you used the natural refrigerator. Thanks for sharing and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

well atleast it's not yet a complete mess that turns gray wet and black when it starts to melt, and you can save some energy because you don't need a frich here so that's a pro... the cons < the pro's for a small amount of time :P better enjoy it.. keeps you inside producing blocks and stuff which is good for us too :P.. edit.. oh the electro was down I understand.. must have brought a lot of people back to the 1800's then, survival of the fittest.. know how to make fire xD

tu muriéndote de frió y yo de calor...

Though the town was blanketed/covered with these white pieces of frozen water and caused a lot of trouble but still it look so amazing.

crazy dude, to see that much snow. Unreal. no thanks lol... I did see you have a pretty big back yard. Want me to come out for the summer and dig you a pool. lol... pretty interesting but when you live through big earthquakes here in LA, massive 30 days monsoons in Hawaii and grew up with crazy hurricanes in Florida you start to think what are the best avenues to retain power and stability. I have found buying 2 mophie XL Battery packs to be huge lifesavers for devices which i have, YOU can recharge a laptop several times, theres also a portable heater that runs off battery packs too that i found on kickstarter if you are interested. I take it with me on travel trips through overnight hikes in hawaii. it can heat up an entire room quite nice. I have also invested in a wifi or its called a MIFI from verizon that you can turn on / off service when needed as a portable wifi hub instead of the iphone one. I keep it in an emergency pack waiting for a day like that. you can pay for usage on it vs a monthly plan. Since Im always remote or FT in tech i have to have mobility comm up always. Let me know if you are interested in any of these things and ill send you links ;) hope you get power today my friend

btw, seems out the back porch you have a beautiful sunrise. i live for those. makes you feel pretty amazing

I'll be honest with ya, that looks pretty damn miserable. Spring can't be here fast enough. Try not to get too stinky

I'm not very happy when I am without power/internet

Definitely not. Only a couple things to do during weather like that to make it better, and both include being under the influence 😂
