Pack your rain gear and your patience this evening, it's going to be a wet one.
The day started innocently enough with early morning sunshine. Clouds then quickly covered any blue sky and light showers have been scattered about during the afternoon. The heaviest rain is just about on the doorstep now. An approaching cold front will combine with a strengthening area of low pressure along the Carolinas to drop over an inch of rain tonight. With such a large amount of rain in a rather short amount of time expected, a flash flood watch is in effect for the entire Tri-state area through tomorrow morning. Rainfall totals well over an inch are possible.
Rain will end after midnight and skies will clear, but brisk winds will fire up out of the northwest and cold air will settle in. Temperatures will be in the 40s on Saturday, but will feel like the 30s when accounting for the wind, which may gust up to 40 mph at times. Wind chills will fall into the 20s Saturday night into Sunday morning, but It will feel less harsh by midday as the breeze lightens up a bit.

Monday will be a touch better with highs getting closer to 50, with light winds. Clouds will begin to increase late Monday with rain set arrive on Tuesday with the next storm system. This will be a fairly potent system with very heavy precipitation. Tuesday morning will still be rather chilly. which could lead to a few snowflakes well north and west of Long Island. During the day temperatures will be at their warmest all week, reaching into the 50s. You know it's a cold stretch when your warmest day is only seasonable at best!
Another blast of cold air comes in as the rain exits, perhaps bringing a few wet flakes close to Long Island Tuesday night. The axis of this trough is looking more positively tilted, which decreases the likelihood of any snow for our area.
This air mass will be even colder, as Wednesday's high temperatures may fail to reach 40°!
