SOGGY PM COMMUTE TODAY FOR LONG ISLANDsteemCreated with Sketch.

Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, filled with family, football, and lots of tryptophan!

We're off to a dry start across the island but showers are building west of NYC. Heavy rain is expected by later this afternoon, which means the evening drive whole will be a sloppy (and slow) one. A strengthening area of low pressure is to blame for another round of soaking rain, the second in 3 days. If you had to drive on Saturday night, you had a preview for what it will be like this evening. Rain amounts of .5" to 1" are expected, though I won't rule out isolated higher amounts. Flash flood watches are posted for much of the area, but not for Nassau and Suffolk.....yet.

Additionally, a southerly flow ahead of the storm system is leading to coastal flooding concerns along the south shore. Advisories are up for the next few rounds of high tides until tomorrow morning. While this should be relatively mild coastal flooding, know your tidal times if you live in these locations, and expect there may be some water in the streets and/or basements. It will become quite breezy. East winds of 15-25 mph are expected, with gusts of 30-40. A wind advisory will go into effect this evening for eastern Suffolk, where winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

Temperatures will be in the low 50s this afternoon, which is seasonable. They certainly have been all over the place since last week! Below are the last 5 days of high temperatures at MacArthur Airport:

Once this storm system moves through tonight, they will drop into the 40s, where they will remain through the end of the week (30s overnight). It will be dry through Friday, with varying amounts of sun and clouds.

A weak shortwave overnight into Saturday could bring some chilly light rain to parts of the area. There will be another storm moving through later in the weekend, but it will bring with it mild air and temperatures should return to the 50s for several days. Have a great day!
