A FREEZING WEEKEND WITH LITTLE TO NO SNOW, QUIET WEEK AHEADsteemCreated with Sketch.

On this day 1 year ago, it was about 60° degrees on Long island! This year, we are far from it.

Temperatures this morning fell into the teens across Nassau and Suffolk:

Farmingdale: 18°
Islip: 14°
Shirley: 14°
Westhampton: 10°
Montauk: 19°

This afternoon we are struggling to hit 30° once again. Another frigid, sub-freezing day out there!

Let's take a look at our other current weather conditions. You can see on the satellite below a lot of high clouds moving up from the southwest as our now dud of a storm continues to approach.

The air with us is very cold but also very dry. A strong Canadian high has ensured that, and will also suppress this storm to the south. My forecast for Long Island is a dusting at best. As you go south, southern Jersey could see 1-3" with portions south of Atlantic City getting in on heavier bands, which puts them in 3-6" territory. That is also where the winter weather advisories begin. The "bullseye" will be Northern Virginia, the Baltimore/DC area, and the southern Delmarva, where 6-9" are possible. Winter storm warnings are in affect for those areas.

MY SNOWFALL FORECAST

PHILADELPHIA/MT. HOLLY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SNOW FORECAST

With the storm staying away, clouds will give way to some sunshine during the day on Sunday. Looking ahead to the upcoming week, the sun will be sticking around right into Friday, with temperatures slowly rising back to seasonable levels. Our next storm system is likely to come through early next weekend, but right now the models are all over the place in terms of exactly what that will bring for us. The GFS still has mostly rain for Long Island and other coastal sections, but the EURO is outputting a multi-day snow event. This will be my main focus over the next several days. --Geoff
