A MIDWEEK WARMUP, BUT WITH A WET TRADE-OFFsteemCreated with Sketch.

Good afternoon.

Skies are overcast on this Wednesday, but at least we have said goodbye to the brutal cold that started off the week, as the numbers currently sit around 40 degrees. Temps will continue to rise overnight and approach 50 on Thursday, but the catch is that rain is on the way.

Showers will begin overnight, with steadier and heavier rain expected during the day Thursday. For this reason, a FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for Long Island from 6am to 6pm Thursday. Rainfall totals in the 1-2" range are possible.

Skies will clear Thursday night as the sunshine returns for Friday and Saturday, but so will the cold.
On Sunday, a weak clipper system will bring light snow showers to the area.

Looking ahead to the final days of January next week, it looks like one more storm system comes through, but another brief shot of milder air ahead of it will mean rain. Barring any drastic changes, big snows are going to have to wait until February. -Geoff
