Do you hate advertising? Don't just block them, fight back!

Do

you hate how snoopy and nosy advertising on the internet is? Do you hate how websites give you messages when you run an adblocker trying to make you feel bad for blocking ads, amongst which are all kinds of drive by hacks and rootkits trying to turn your machine into a spy?

Well, Ad Nauseum is for you. Not only does it pretend to the site and the advertisers that you are not blocking ads, but you can also set it to automatically 'click' every ad, and screw up their analytics nicely. Not only do you not see the ads, the site thinks you did, and the advertiser thinks you clicked on their pointless nonsense.

Currently you have to go through some rigmerole, download a zip, unpack it, enable developer mode for chrome... but it's worth doing. I have set mine to click every ad. If they want clicks, they get them, but they don't get my opinion! For firefox and opera, though, it doesn't take any complicated things.

This was from a tip from my friend Andrei. He will be very pleased people reacted so well. Maybe I can find the Steemlode again!

Nice! A great way of trolling. I used to be an ad guy but the false clicks just got out of control so I moved 100% to social media 3 years ago.

It's the most damaging attack. DDoSnooping!

I have ads blocked apart from on specific sites I want to support. People need to learn that is another way and it's called Steemit!

There's also Privacy Badger - it feeds on supercookies: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/what-are-supercookies-and-why-are-they-dangerous/

Thank you for posting @l0k1. Appreciate the information.

Yes...anything to diminish massive data gathering. Ghostery.com is a good browser for eliminating ads as well.

Does this represent your attitude toward advertising at Steemit?

All the best. Cheers.

I am not against advertising but espionage. Market research should not come from digital bugs.

In this platform it should be easy to make the distribution of money in this. Advertisers pay the customer for the impression. It works like voting systems but different formula. You must consent also.

Advertising would be a boon for Steem. And there will be false clicks (spam) to eliminate. Decay of vote power. And no weighting. Well, I don't know exactly the best design but it can resolve many problems with internet marketing.

Thank you for your reply @l0k1.

Agreed...thank you for the distinction.

There is a distinction to be made from a categorical perspective...it is easy to lump it all together....advertising has become an emotive word as it has been used for nefarious means...perhaps internet marketing as you have used it would be best... provided it comes with said caveats. It is a topic worthy of discussion.

Kind Regards, bleujay

Awesome, that's a nice way to get rid of adds and the 'Please view our adds' messages. Didn't know something like this was out there, thanks!

nice post, i like

Nice! I have often thought about setting up a bot to browse random web sites and click random links around the clock in order to confuse the data gatherers.

Unfortunately, I doubt if I can use adnauseum, because I use the Brave browser to automatically send a bit of bitcoin each month to the sites I want to support. I love the concept, though.

This seems like a great Idea, I tested it straight away. Unfortunately, for sites like Youtube, adnauseam blocked 0 elements, while uBlock Origin blocked 292. And they "may conflict", i.e. they definitely do.
Still a great idea, I'll leave both installed and experiment a bit more with them. Thanks for the post!

It is maybe useful program.

Many thanks! I'll try it!
