My Proposal Story

I know it's been a little while now, but I still can't believe this is real!

I'M ENGAGED!

We've only been talking about getting married since we first started dating (when you know, you know...), but it's still pretty unreal. It's one of those things you look forward to and dream about your whole life and when it finally happens, it seems unbelievable.

So here's how it all happened. Let me just tell you, it was pretty amazing.

My fiance is military so we're long distance most of the time and we don't really get to spend as much time together as we'd like. He's stationed about 6 hours away, so occasionally he is able to come home for a weekend every once in a while. I knew he was coming home, but he had told me he was only coming home for my sister's senior prom.

He's a little liar, I know..

Breakfast is our thing. WE LOVE BREAKFAST. So he told me he wanted to take me out for breakfast to one of our favorite breakfast places, a tiny little diner on Main Street. I'm never about to turn down breakfast, so I was excited to go.

I kind of had a feeling something was going to happen. He had just been acting a little weird, and so had my mom and sister. Ever have that feeling where you just felt like everyone else was in on a secret that you didn't know anything about??

When I first got into his car there was a jewelry store bag on the passenger seat. You could say I was a little confused. Wouldn't he want it to be a surprise?? I moved the bag to the backseat and didn't say anything about it.

When he got in, he looked at me and said, "Aren't you going to open it?"

Now I really knew something was up.

So I reached into the backseat, grabbed the bag, and pulled the jewelry box out. I opened the box up and much to my surprise it was....... a bracelet.

It was a gorgeous bracelet and I loved it, but not exactly what I was expecting. He told me he just wanted to buy me something special because I deserved it. It really was such a sweet thought (have I mentioned how amazing he is?). Any inkling I had that he might propose was now thrown out the window. After that I figured it was just going to be a normal weekend.

We went to breakfast and had an amazing time. Plus the food was delicious!

After breakfast he told me he wanted to do something outside, something fun, something different. It wasn't exactly the most beautiful day out, but I was open to it. A little rain never hurt anyone.

So he took me down to a dock on the river near his house. I had never been there before, but it was gorgeous. It was nice and secluded and absolutely beautiful. Being a nature person, I was in heaven. I love being at the river so I was happy to spend some time there with him exploring.

The rain sure wasn't going to stop us.

Eventually after walking around a little bit and exploring, we walked out to the dock on the river. I just wanted to walk out to end, but apparently he had different plans.

I was standing at the end of the dock enjoying the river while he stood behind me with his arms around my waist. It was a perfect moment. It was so peaceful just standing there with eachother. But it got even better once I turned around.

I turned around and that's when I knew something real was about to happen.

He said it was about time that he told me the real reason for coming home for the weekend. And that's when he got down on one knee.

Cue the tears.

It was such a perfect and unbelievable moment. And to make it even more surreal, as soon as I said yes the sun came out. It may have only been for a few seconds, but the sun definitely started shining. It was all that I had ever dreamed of and more. He's an amazing man and I can't believe I get to spend the rest of my life with him.

He told me later on he bought the bracelet to throw me off. He knew I had a feeling he was going to ask me to marry him, so he just wanted to make sure it was a surprise. And a surprise it was. He really thought of everything.

So I guess that's my proposal story. My fiance made sure it was absolutely the most perfect day. It sure was a day I'll remember for the rest of my life. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
