It snowed in Alaska

We normally have snow by Halloween each year, so it not snowing until the 11th was a little bit of a wait, but not real super unusual I guess. Hard to find weather records for this area especially when searching for latest first snowfall, so I gave up on the search. It was only about a 3 inch snowfall.

Here is what it looked like out the kitchen door on Sunday:

It was the first snowfall, they are always followed by a slight warm-up and melt of the first snowfall, so it is a waste of time to plow or shovel and make the beginnings of a pile that will not go away until spring time. So it is best to kind of ignore it, stay off it on that first day, try not to go anywhere the next day, stay home, stay cozy, and let the other people end up in the ditch while they relearn to drive in snow.

On with a Tiny Wednesday Walk around the yard

First we will start the walk to show how much snow is left the first two pictures from the front step. Same general view as the top picture from 3 days ago, like I mentioned we generally have a slight warm-up after the first snowfall.

And the driveway, Of course the oil man had to come the day after the first snow, which is fine because then he compresses that first layer of snow, and unless it is an exceptional warm up, the beginning of the first Ice layer.

Very difficult when using markdown to format various sized pictures. Especially fitting a tall picture in with normal pictures.

This is a little frozen seed pod. I am not sure from what wild flower, but it looked just a little bit cold.

The last photo here I think is of a frozen small yarrow plant. We have a lot of them in the yard.

That's pretty much it for the pictures, It was a little bit cold still walking around out there, but most of that first snowfall is gone. Like they say in the Game of Thrones, Winter is coming, well I think it is pretty much officially here now that we had our first snow.

I hope everyone has a safe winter, watch out on the roads, and be careful with the fire places, and space heaters. It's like we are all dumb when winter first starts, like we forgot what it was like last year, and have to re-learn it all over again. So check your trunk. Spare blanket? Spare Socks? Winter Survival gear? Extra coat? The normal things that we don't carry with us in the summer.
