A drive to Homer and the overlook flower beds

It started out a pretty nice day on Monday, we had some nice cloud cover, not solid greyed out sky just enough clouds to make the sky interesting, and still have a lot of sunlight. We were heading down to Homer for some pictures.

I took a lot of road side shots of the mountains along the way, and we did stop at the first pull-out for some mountain pictures. This shot here was a 55 drive by shot, a little straightening and cropping, I think it came out just fine for a drive by shot.

Of course like most places in the world if you don't like the weather where you are wait awhile or dive 50 miles and change it. Problem was we liked the weather where we started out at, but then at Happy Valley, the clouds thickened, and the rains came, and the rains lasted until we were on the Homer side of Anchor Point. The clouds never really did thin much when we got to Homer, but at least the rain had stopped about five miles out of town.

At the Homer Overlook pullout they have several flower beds they plant each year. This was our target. I wanted to practice with my Macro lens a little bit so the flower beds were a great target. I got to say, that it is a lot of work to get down close to the plants and is some very good exercise. I wonder if anyone has written the photo-yoga book yet.

I took a lot of pictures, I did try to look on the little camera screen and see if the photos came out, but it is a small screen, and when you get home download them and then look on a big screen, you see the ones that were not quite in focus.

The above conglomeration were the best images from the photo shoot. I was a bit disheartened that some did not get a nice focus, but there is always the next trip, and a reason to take another trip, get the shots that were missed.

Tuesday's stop

On our drive down to Homer on Monday, I noticed in one of the wet land areas what looked like the water lilies blooming. Last year we missed the bloom. Fortunately we did our Homer drive at the right time of the year, and were able to take note of the lilies blooming. We have a very nice lily lake/pond area very close by, so after our normal Tuesday jaunt and runaround we stopped by.

Bigger View(but not by much)

It is a pretty good sized little lake. Above shot is with my landscape lens four shots across the bottom, and four across the top, and using Auto Stitch demo for creating the pano shot.

Below here a nice close-up of one of the lilies. I switched out lens and used the zoom lens.

Right by the little path to the waters edge was an Alaskan Sitka Rose bush. I had to back about 15 feet away to get the picture, a little cropping and processing, and I am happy with how that picture came out. really pleased because the wind had picked up a little bit and the bush was fluttering some, So I had to up the ISO, and increase the shutter speed to 1250, and then under expose it to get the shot, fortunately the photo programs allow us to correct and or adjust all of that. Now if they could just come out with a program that would fix my bad focusing, I would be real happy.

Great shots that’s pretty impressive for a drive by shot
And getting the focus right shooting macros is always a real challenge fir me I am happy if I just get a few with good focus and usable

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

Yeah, it is a bummer when you get home and are anxious to see that cool Marco you took, and then boom! reality hits you in the face and you missed it even though it looked good in the 2 inch camera screen. I guess that is why we take a lot of pictures, one or two are bound to be good. LoL.

We th macros especially I take many of shots a slight puff of wind the flower moves a tiny amount that you barely notice and then you look on the PC and a smile turns upside down lol

But that makes it all the more fun when you get a shot you love 😎👍😎

You captured great drive-by shot. Flowers are blooming. i see you have the lupins. I noticed today there were lots along the roadside. Water lily photo with reflection is my favorite.

Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing!

Wow, its really nice place of Homer. And you shot panoramic photography landscape is superb.
