Weekly report notes 92 active COVID-19 cases, 4 new deaths

The Amarillo Public Health Department (APHD) reported an increase of 27 new COVID-19 cases and four new deaths over the past week in its weekly COVID-19 report card released Friday.

The report is posted every Friday with updated data from BSA Health System, Northwest Texas Healthcare System, and Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center.

Trauma Service Area A, which includes Potter and Randall counties as well as the majority of the Texas Panhandle, is recording a .75% COVID-19 hospitalization rate as of Thursday, according to the State Department of Health Services website.

The weekly COVID-19 report, issued Fridays by the Amarillo Public Health Department.

The 27 new COVID-19 active cases amount to a seven-day, new-case average of four, with a seven-day positivity rate of 1%, according to the report card.

That brings the total number of cases in Potter and Randall counties to 74,155 and the total number of deaths to 1,224 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

A total of 92 cases were considered active on the website Friday.

According to the site, there have been 72,839 total recoveries for the area.

Potter County's total cases rose to 35,806 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total, 44 are active, with 35,037 recoveries and 725 deaths related to the virus, according to the APHD website.

Randall County's total COVID-19 cases rose to 38,349 since the start of the pandemic. Of the total, 48 are active, with 37,802 recoveries and 499 deaths related to the virus.

According to the APHD website, 579,197 COVID-19 tests have been conducted since the start of the pandemic.

By the Centers for Disease Control standards, both Randall and Potter counties' community levels of COVID-19 were considered Low, or Green, as of Thursday.

The Amarillo Public Health COVID-19 Hospitalization report, also being released each Friday, noted five COVID-19 patients hospitalized, 60% of whom are not vaccinated, with one patient in the ICU and none on ventilators. The ICU patient is not vaccinated.

Weekly COVID report: three more deaths, seven more cases in a week

The Tuscarawas County Health Department reported there were 76 active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, which was eight fewer cases than in the previous seven-day reporting period.

Tuscarawas County had seven new COVID-19 cases reported between 2 p.m. on March 31 and 2 p.m. Thursday. There were four new hospitalizations of county residents and three more deaths.

As of Friday, 496 Tuscarawas County residents had been lost to COVID-19 related deaths, according to the health department.

Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover reported having two inpatients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 on Friday. Neither is in intensive care. On April 1, there were no inpatients with COVID-19 being treated at Union Hospital.

The majority of severe COVID-19 cases in Ohio continue to be among those who are not fully vaccinated, according to the health department.

Upcoming vaccine clinics are scheduled for April 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Claymont Senior Center, 633 N. Main St., Uhrichsville; and April 22 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Garaway Senior Center, 221 Dover Road, Sugarcreek.

The county health department is offering COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots. Appointments may be made by calling 330-343-5555, extension 174 or 181 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
