80% Why YOU need to know it!

Do you know why 80% is important?

Why YOU need to know it?

Very simple: It takes 5 days to recharge your Resource Credits from 0 - 100%. That means, if you spend 20% of your fully charged Resource Credits, the very next day it will be back up to 100%

Reminds you a little bit of your voting power, right? Same concept! Only, when you drain your Resource Credits, you can't perform any transactions. It's like when users used to get visited by the "Bandwidth Monster" lol Remember how every transaction was prohibited? It's the same exact thing with your Resource Credits.

So the Rule of 80!

Everyday, you should be limiting your interaction to around that 80% number, so that each day, you can recharge back up to 100%. What does that look like for the brand new user?

Let's take a look at this new user account!

Everyone can check their gauges at www.steemd.com/@username - and put YOUR username after the @

You can see approximately how many comments you can make with your remaining percentage of Resource Credits. Here, this user has approximately 38 comments (which are posts also) until their 100% is drained. So should they use 38 comments/posts in one day? No, not unless they want to take their RC to zero. So, divide that number by 5 - in order to give you your ONE DAY approximate usage.

So here - this user can use approximately 7 comments/posts for the day.

What does a comment look like?

After testing it, we saw that it seems to be about two standard-sized sentences. If you use four standard-sized sentences, the system will view that as the same usage as 2 comments. So - if you are verbose with your comments, you might want to be careful under the new guidelines. It's important to CHECK your RCs before, and after! Each comment has a transaction fee associated with it as well. Get into the habit of knowing how much your writing "costs" you in RCs so that you can stay on top of this!

What about posting?

Posting is like a longer comment. So, again, if you have been enjoying posting very long posts each day - you might want to keep an eye on how this affects your RCs! Have fun, interact, comment - but just keep an eye on your usage so you don't find your account drained.

What can you do to boost your RCs?

There is talk about larger accounts being able to delegate RCs to smaller accounts in the future, but currently - the only way to boost your RCs is to earn them or buy them, or to have someone delegate SP to your account. (A delegation of SP will boost your voting mana and your resource credits.)

I hope this helps ALL you newbies out there! Welcome Wagon staff have been testing, pushing, talking, arguing (haha) - all in the hopes that newbies will have the absolute BEST way to continue to enjoy the SOCIAL aspects of our beloved Steemit! We will keep you informed as we are informed of any new tips and tricks to get the best usage out of your accounts!

As long as we're here to help, you'll have all the help we can offer!

I have always tried to keep my voting power about 80% or higher, but the same applies to resource credits as well. This is great advice for new users.

@welcomewagon, keep up the great work!

thanks so much @sumatranate! Yes the exact same thing applies!!!

We are really hoping that we can help everyone with this transition! :)

As you have clearly shown now the HF20 dust has settled it is obvious that brand new accounts and also accounts with very low SP (below 50) are going to struggle the hardest to progress. While many of us long term on here have learned the best way forward is to promote yourself through comments, this is now much more difficult for those starting out.

However the upside is now more then ever finding a community (or one like @welcomewagon that finds you) is more important then ever to bring people together to support and engage each other.

I think in the long term this is all working out for the better, and right now looking as you have at how we ensure support of the people who need it most will be key to retaining existing users and also learning what can be done in future for new accounts.

I could not agree more!!!! that is exactly the key - keeping new users flowing in and protecting - while also enjoying the limit of spam

although - i'm not sure if spam was every a problem for me? I just ignored it and upvoted real comments hehehe but i'm sure there was some affect that it had on the blockchain for those who didn't know better and upvoted?

but - either way, i'm hoping that we weather this storm together and continue to thrive! that's what we're all here for, right :)

you're so awesome @c0ff33a - i really admire you more and more each day!

I di not understand how a newbie is supposed to make friends and gain followers if they can't even go out and make comments. It just makes no sense to me. I hope we can delegate RC. I'd be happy to share some with Welcome Wagon to pass along to new accounts.

that is so incredibly kind of you @melinda010100!!!! its people like you that make this place special - and i mean that from the fullness of my heart!

I did just offer that same thing yesterday - 5 spots for a 50 SP delegation to help out new users...

If you hear of anyone that is in need - please send them to the latest WW post!!! :) and thank you for helping out the platform and newbies!!! if they don't grow - we dont' grow!

I did lease some SP for one of my followers that was struggling. It feels good to be able to help.

doesn't it feel so good? i think i'm addicted to that feeling hehehehe :)

makes perfect sense!! Thanks @dreemsteem for the update!

you got it, girlieq!

I think this is very helpful and informative to note especially the RC are not within our control.

Yes, its pretty hard especially for me that I am used to make crazy comments and liking everywhere. I dont know how to tone down and limit myself on engagement because my SP is much lesser.

Before, I really dont mind if I get my voting power down or most it is depleted. But now, its kinda scary to run out of RC. We dont really know what it will do the accounts. Sooooo, at this time it is better to be safe. Maintaining 80% is tough, but we need to.

This I hope will not be permanent though. Still hoping for more changes.

yes!!!! but - we stick together, right? :)

Always and forever.. ❤❤❤

Thanks for this very informative post, resteemed!

thanks so much!

In all due respect, I quit caring about all this stuff with how much I should Post to save my VP % etc...etc... I love Steemit. I do a lot of Commenting and Curation and I don't worry about that other stuff. My VP is rarely above 50% and I really don't care. If I like something I reward it. I JUST DO IT :)

Hi @robertandrew!!! :) sorry i'm just seeing this now! :)

Yes - i felt the same way! I let my voting power get down to 19% and i still didn't care - I just had fun engaging with people and commenting!

But - this is for people like us. People who don't really "need" to worry about it. You are a dolphin and I have 1100SP (mostly delegated out now... but... LOL)

We can have fun and engage and not feel limited at all!

But this past week, my entire community of newbies felt it very differently than we did. Which is why i'm now delegated all out and offering 5 more 50 SP delegations to any other newbie that I find that needs help!

Our amazing platform is amazing (in my opinion) because it allows people to engage! When there is a restriction on that, and people need to wait a day or two before they can even post - or comment.... we risk losing some REALLY amazing, genuine people with beautiful interaction!

I'm thrilled that our platform is now scalable. I just am very sad that it came at the expense of people that I love! (they're not just numbers or a percentage to me... cuz i'm the Mom of the Welcome Wagon hahahaha they are faces and laughter and connections that I'll lose if they can't interact)

so - problem solved for my group! :) I delegated myself out! hahahaha but for the people who don't have someone looking out for them.... hmmmmm i hope they figure out a way to get past this wall!

always enjoy your comments and interaction!!!!!!

thank you for this info - good to know about these changes

you're very welcome!

Thanks a lot, @welcomwagon for this amazing article.
Wish you all the best!
