The Old Dog Worries: Let's Hope That They Welded Well!

in welding •  7 years ago  (edited)

On day 8 of my Steemcation I found myself on another vertical challenge. The Skywalk Allgau Naturerlebnispark in the Bavaria region of Germany has a suspended walkway that had me marvelling at the trust that all of the tourists have put in the welders who worked on this engineering marvel.

The View of The Countryside and Lake Constance is Marvelous

Facts About The Skywalk

  • It reaches a height of up to 40 meters
  • It is about 540 meters in length
  • You can use a slide to get back down!

Check Out The Welds That Helped to Hold This All Together!

What Do You Think?

  • Do you see the beauty in the welds and fittings of this walkway?
  • Would you trust the welds? Should I have?
  • Would you be afraid way up there?

I hope that you think that they welded well!

Until next time,

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

It's amazing what man will do just to get a view from up above.....definitely amazing structure

Another excellent post dear brother and one of my favorite as it asks about the strength and beauty of the welds.
Yes, the structure is beautiful and the welds will hold as long as the wire ropes (connector) and concrete stay strong.

Very carefully protected welds by paint, don't see even a little bit of rust.

I loved this post because I did a heavy duty mechanic job for 5 years and did a lot of welding there. Still I love welding It's fun.

Thanks for your input. You have done a wide range of work and it gives you an interesting lens through which to observe things!

It's all about circumstances dear brother. Now I understand that there are many benefits to born in a poor family; even though you have to go through a lot of hardships but you learn a lot!

Sehr schön!!! Tolles Erlebnis!
Aufwiedersehen!

@steemitri is everywhere!

Most of the times our overthinking is the cause of the problems which we'd never face. I don't think even if these welds were about to break off, they would all do it at once. And among so many joints, even if one or two gave way, what would happen? Perhaps it would swing or hang better than a Tibetan bridge ...adding to your fun!

I know you are enjoying your steemcations a lot and just scaring your followers here with such close ups of welded joints! But perhaps you don't know us. We too are enjoying your steemcations. How I wish your steemcations may continue forever! I'm loving it!

Thanks so much. We head home today but I'll still be on "vacation" at home for the rest of the week.

I wouldn't trust, it looks like nothing is holding it up.

I think that you would have enjoyed it. Especially the sky high obstacle course with the safety net below!

I would not think twice about testing that skywalk. In Germany, they would be regulated and secured for ages before people were allowed to walk on it.

In fact I would not even hesitate to slap dance my 540 meters of dignity all the way to safety.

Great slap dance. I'll give it a try!

looks safer than a tibetan bridge. ;)

Likely. This one had even more engineering involved.

I'm not a coward, but I'm afraid! )) I still can't overcome the fear of height. Besides a distrust of the quality of welding. I would not go))

I can understand that. Maybe once you were there you'd change your mind.

That's some fine welding! I trust that with my life... from an engineering standpoint- you got nothing to worry about!

Yes it looked great and it made me appreciate the engineering involved.

The whole thing looked pretty impressive. Where is it again? I was so busy inspecting the welds, I forgot to look lol!

The welds and fittings are so very invasive, and they don't match with the nature beaty. I believe, on the other hand, that they're safe and helpful! As usual a great post Old Dog! (;

I agree that it doesn't fit in with nature.

I don't know if it's more beautiful or more scary for me :D I have to say that even if I usually get vertigo, I'm really intrigued by this skywalk. If I'll visit that place, maybe I'll do it ^_^

I'm sure that you'd be able to do it. Maybe just skip the obstacle course at the end.

Uhmmmmmmmmmm! Preferisco camminare a bassa quota...............

Imagine the great opportunity for pictures!

Woah! That skywalk is amazingly a good spot to shoot some of the scenes around.

Yes it was a lot of fun!

Perhaps it’s my lack of understanding of how people weld. But umm… were they drunk when they did those? I mean they are ugly. I was always told welding is an art form. Not the biggest fan of a giant metal structure going right into a forest. Its an eyesore and just looks out of place. Then again I prefer my forest to be above me and not me being at the tree tops.

I agree that the structure didn't fit in with the surroundings. I was however fascinated with the way it was put together. A real engineering marvel.

Wow! That's a spectacular walk among the treetops. Although I'm not much for heights, I think I would totally trust "German engineering" on this one... and just enjoy myself. Looks like you are having an amazing trip!

Yes, I think that you would have enjoyed it. I just got home again but I'm still officially on vacation all this week!

The force there is huge, engineering is simply lovely

Yes it was impressive to observe.

I think my knees would go spaghetti on top but yes I would trust the welds - made in Germany means good quality - IMHO ( not everything of course)
you in Germany!?
you're close!
heading this way Old Dog? let's meet if you are!

Yes I'm in near the Swiss border and heading to Ticino tomorrow. Thanks for thinking of me.

what welds? I see bolts.

I guess if you can't see them that's a good thing. On the long cylinders you can see plates that are welded to them and these acts as fastening points for the bolts.

good welds are typically stronger than the material that is welded together...

I trust those welds more than that clothesline suspension bridge from before last week!!!

I guess that you're right!

The Skywalk looks pretty tame compared to the rope bridge over the river from last week. I would hope that German engineering could put a proper weld in place. They look fine to me, did you see any that were starting to give?

The bigger question is: Did you take the slide down the hillside?

Yes the welds were all in good order. No slide down the hill though.

I have to be honest, you couldn't get me up that in a million years! but i am not the fondest of heights anyways.

We have something similar here, but its one tenth of the scale and made of 99% wood lol.

I can understand you because I don't like heights much either. I had to push myself a little but it was a great experience.

Nice post again.. good pictures.. but to be honest the word "Bavaria"attracted to continue to read. In my part of Holland we have a big brewer of beer.. and the name is "Bavaria" Did you have it once? It's also still a family business company and very straight forward. no bullshit but just trying to make the best beer.

I've never tried that brand but will be sure to put it on my list.

You certainly have to do. MAybe if I make it to Steemfest I can bring you one.. MArketing yourself is important I learned from onceuponatime :-) Did you checkout my latest post https://steemit.com/archaelogy/@rival/archaeology-and-fossils-only-15-km-from-my-home it's also near the place I live

Oh I would get dizzy for sure. I always start feeling dizzy when I look down from such highs. But the view is really amazing ! All these trees around makes it beautiful with the green colors :)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I'm not a big fan of heights either but I trusted in the construction and pushed myself.

@kus-knee, do not tell me you were scared of height. Those knots are strong i can see. The old really enjoyed himself.

Yes it was an interesting outing.

Wooow pretty neat. I guess you are enjoying your vacations. I really like the structure. I guess everyone would have to trust the builders and its an amazing welding job. Thanks for sharing I'm glad you are having fun.

Thanks for stopping by. Yes it's been a great time.

No problem is always great to read your posts :]

This is the miracle of science. I have also read the theory of steel structures and know how much effort the engineers put while designing these structures, they are the real hero. All our safety depends on them and we should always be thankful for them. They also took care of beauty while designing these welds and struts. It is aesthetically appealing.

You make some good points.

Yup buddy. How is my transparent clothes effect looking? Did you enjoy it?

omg it is really scary!!! I am a bit afraid of height, so this is definitely not suitable for me haha
however I believe the welds are safe, trust them they are the engineers ;)

Yes, I was thinking that the walkway is likely inspected regularly.

Ooh high up in the trees, how beautiful :-)

I'd have to make sure I don't think about the construction too much while enjoying the view, otherwise I might get a little scared!

You're probably right.

I think such designs can be trusted. They are quite reliable. They even used to road bridges. In one of my posts I showed a couple of photos. Here is one:

They look beautiful. They are lightweight and seem to hover in the air. In St. Petersburg I sometimes use that bridge.

Yes that is a very impressive bridge. Those structures fascinate me.

It is an amazing walkway, with an interesting design. I suppose they x-ray the welds just to make sure that no human error slipped in.

Yes I'm sure that they were tested, re-tested and ar still examined regularly.

So cooool and so easiest and safest way to enjoy the beauty of nature.
But the coolest thing is i can use slide to get myself down.

Yes the slide was fun.

yeah slide is always fun.

Usually Germany is synonymous of realiability about infrastructure, so i will trust It and i would go with closed eyes!

I agree!

There are so many checks and rules in Germany you can be sure that this holds more than it should be. :-)
Looks very solid from here. 😊 ;-)

It does look very solid!

Wow, you are brave. However, I would trust the welding. Surely there are many checks and balances on something this vast.

I agree!

I would like to walk there and take pictures :) Very cool :)

You'd love it for photo ops!

Yes :) Fortunately, I'm not afraid of heights :))

a view there is gorgeous!
tumblr_n1r5scLAVP1svhcpuo1_500.gif

you might get butterfly in stomach after seeing that :D haha

The welds look good so I suppose you can trust it!

Yes they looked ver well done.

Very nice photos! I'm not sure that I would dare to walk there. I am very afraid of heights. You are very brave

I don't think 40 meters is high enough to open a parachute anyway, so just trust those welds!

True!

Your journey @kus-knee is breathtaking! Of course I would be afraid, but I think the designs are reliable! Have a nice day!

Thanks!

Nice pictures and the structure is amazing. I would trust it :D

:-) You have to trust it ,.. do not think about it ,.. same as in a

If you start thinking if it will be safe ... oh ohhh

Not for people who are afraid of hights ;P

Amazing structure. Enjoyed the pictures.
