Hi @randowhale, may I ask a question? I've been in Steemit for about a month, and I'm afraid all this "3.4%" (for instance) upvote has me very confused.
You see, I have been marshaling my resources, but I don't know what to do with them.
According to this:
my 'voting power' is 97.28%. It is actually a little higher right now.
For the past week or so, I've had a slider where I decide how much I assign to my upvote. I've been typically giving 5%, to a random 'like' comment, 10% to someone who actually posts a meaningful comment on my post, yet my vote power keeps going up.
I have 5.000 STEEM, but I don't know what that means or what to do with it.
I am a musician, I dabble in computers, but I don't understand all this one little bit.
Can you help me please?
hi jerry, I'll help you :)
as you have seen, the voting power and voting strength are different. By default small voters will always use 100% strength and this act of voting takes away 2% of their current power , so the lower your voting power goes, the smaller each vote is worth and the longer it takes to drain it even more to a minimum of 0.01% voting power drained per vote.
Let me give a series of examples to make it simple:
100% voting power, 100% vote strength = 98% remaining power
50% voting power, 100% vote strength = 49% remaining power
20% voting power, 100% vote strength = 19.6% remaining power
10% voting power, 100% vote strength = 9.8% remaining power
etc.
this also scales the other way:
100% voting power, 75% vote strength = 98.5% remaining power
100% voting power, 50% vote strength = 99% remaining power
100% voting power, 25% vote strength = 99.5% remaining power
etc.
and then you must note that voting power recharges about 20% per day, so you could do 10 MAX STRENGTH upvotes per day at 100% power, and if you are at 50% power you can do 20 and sustain there, they will just be worth about half as much on average.
Note no single way of doing this is strictly better in terms of total output, it's just a different form of concentration or spreading the votes around, the primary thing you need to optimize is keeping your voting power from recharging to 100% and staying there for extended periods of time.
Hope that helps you (or anyone else with the same question) ^_^
@alphacore AWESOME guide, thanks for sharing!
I do not have a slider for my upvotes and have been doing 100% , and I use steemvoter.com rules to slide the upvote percentage to video content providers who are anarchists.
So how can I modify my Firefox browser to slide the upvote % ?
for this you will need your private posting key from wallet permissions
chainbb is attached to the steem blockchain but using a different interface
this will allow you to use the vote slider sooner than on steemit
as a side note the slider staying hidden until roughly 500SP is a design choice to keep things a bit more simple for new people, but there are ways around it :)
Thanks @alphacore, that helps a bit, but it is still so complex. Steem, Steem Power, SBD. Curation awards, Author awards my head spins thinking about it all.
I guess I will understand it some day.
Thanks for this explanation. I still don't understand a damn thing, but at least I have something to read later and to think about... I'm sure some day I'll see the light 😂
Hi Jerry, I don't get it either.... But lets make a pack and the first one that does get it, lets promise to inform the other.....Deal? I follow you now and hope that our paths cross again one day soon! Blessings to you, Brother Charlz
Please do start a newby steemit understanding post and please lets keep it going until we all get it - I am totally in the dark and I even ready many many many past posts of the big dogs, I still am confused. I would love to just get it right and make it happen.. SUNSHINE247
A custom Breaking Bad GIF for use on Steemit in special occasions?! Don't mind if I do! Upvoted and resteemed because this is my favorite thing I've seen all day.
Thanks for making my 11 hour work day even better!
hi again sagema, I know that is discouraging, hope I can help.
Looking through your posts, I will say the biggest thing holding you back is your choice of tags. If you see the response on my guide for how to search any tag on steemit it appears many people don't know how, and just use the default list of tags to find things, aside from that they would be using 'new' for all tags and that is where yours will appear for them, but very few people have a chance to see it there because it moves so fast. So then, to have a bit more exposure I will recommend using the 'gaming' tag, then whenever it fits use 'story','fiction','blog','funny','writing',etc. By using more broad tags that are still relevant to your post, you will build a better following over time and also have some more success in short-term gain through voting, the general idea here is that more people are looking through those tags than the very few that both know how to search specific tags and also search for yours. I think this is a temporary thing and over time the tag system could be better, but for now I think that would be the best thing for you to try.
Do you think I will reply?! (Sorry for my late response, lol)
The problem is that any developer has so many people vying for their attention at any given time they can't devote serious attention to any of it, and what usually ends up happening is the more busy they are the more hype there is about what they're working on and the more people want to talk about it in length, but they are working on it not reading about it, so that is something to make it very unlikely dan has time to see it. Then you must also consider the compounding factor of his SP here, since his vote can be massive a TON of people are using his account name in hopes of it catching his attention, so at this point I'm pretty sure he ignores it entirely (and probably has an alias), your best bet would be to bring up some small questions when he posts about EOS, keep it in small enough size that he can read and answer having only a small amount of time to spare.
@alphacore Thanks for replying.
I'm not seeking the rewards, but rather to amplify the awareness in the community.
I still get stray replies to my comments on an author's post about the issue - where they actually believe blockchain tech is the Goliath killer and the end of central banking. Dan's remarks fuel that too and none of his interviews that I've seen have he addressed the establishment's responses. I provide the evidence in my posts, and the evidence is on the IMF's (and the other globalists' org sites) but clueless comments ask me to feed them the evidence in the reply to their comments.
Sigh, I was hoping for the discussions to spread and then many will become aware of what is happening behind the closed doors.
I'll keep discussing it and sharing the evidence, but it looks hopeless atm.
This post has been ranked within the top 10 most undervalued posts in the second half of Jul 22. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $29.07 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

That's awesome. Spamming sucks because I'd rather use my SP to upvote and encourage people. I know one day I'll have enough SP to wield my powers in a more destructive fashion. Until then, I just have to be nice. :)

an easy way to access % on individual votes is:
using @jesta's [chain.bb forum]
for this you will need your private posting key from wallet permissions
chainbb is attached to the steem blockchain but using a different interface
this will allow you to use the vote slider sooner than on steemit
as a side note the slider staying hidden until roughly 500SP is a design choice to keep things a bit more simple for new people, but there are ways around it :)

@alphacore thanks for the reply, yes, my first attempt to register for chainbb failed and I haven't tried again, as it is a beta version.
I'm curious about the ways around the 500SP feature, if it is not too complicated.

Hi @ronmamita,
I was facing the same issue since I am near the 500SP but no cigar yet:)
So I wrote an app which allows me to vote with less weight.
You can try my app if you think. It is simple to use and secure because it uses SteemConnect to verify your identity.
To find your posting private key on Steemit:
SHOW PRIVATE KEY
button. You will need that for login.
See my app at Minnow-Power.net
It will guide you, how to use it;)
At your SP level at 100% Voting Power, a 25% Weight vote would still result $0.01 to an author.
If you have any question, please ask!
