SteemWhales.com - History, graphs, and daily changes on your personal stats page

in whales •  9 years ago

Two days ago I was introducing Steem Whales. The post received an astounding number of upvotes, and propulsed me from #~5500 to #1776 on my own website. Thanks to all upvoters. $300 is actually a respectable amount of money for me right now, but I think the right choice now for me is to convert ALL OF IT into STEEM POWER. Enough about me, let's talk about the website.

Now that we can sort steemians by anything, we need to know how things evolve through time. Now that we know who is on top or rock bottom, we need to know who is climbing and who is falling. As a consequence, SteemWhales.com now saves all the user stats every day, and gives public access to it, without anyone needing to replay the blockchain.

History graph, and daily changes stats

whale page preview

Consequently, I made individual pages that display and graph your stats through time! To see it, either you click a username from the list, or you can go directly to the url: http://steemwhales.com/heimindanger (see the nice jump yesterday). You can disable certain stats on the graphs by clicking on the legend, if you want to see more precisely.

I also believe a chart is not enough, sometimes data is easier to visualize in a table. So I just did that also, where you can see the daily changes on any stat. For any money type stats, I opted to display each daily change as a percentage increase, because that's how I like to see my money change, and it's probably the same for you if you are into cryptos.

As you can see, I have kept myself quite busy past few days. I'm usually not like that. And that's purely because of steem. I learnt about steem last week thanks to the +1000% market capitalization. I tried to read the white paper entirely, registered, lurked a lot of posts, tried a couple of shit posts/comments to figure things out, and now I'm hooked. I am really curious how it will turn out. Get hacked? Hyperinflation until 1STEEM = $0.01? Someone wins the game, gets all the coins and never upvotes anyone else but him? Or maybe just turn out as advertised (by the community) and become the new mainstream social network? Who knows.

In the future on SteemWhales.com

There is one thing I would like to collect more data on, and that is the upvotes. I want to know who upvotes who and how often. I want to see which users/bots are friends with each other and potentially colluding or auto upvoting each other.

Another thing that disturbs me also is the curation rewards. Sorting by it right now, will show you some very big whales, not the best curators. That's because curation rewards increase as your steem power increase. I am unsure how to do it yet, but I want to be able to find the technically best curators.

When Steem gets bigger and tags see more usage, I will make a feature to see statistics for a whole tag. Something kinda similar to reddit metrics. I think it is a bit a shame how tags work right now, and how we have no way to save our favorite tags. Tags even disappear after a while right now, and you can't access them without typing the url directly or finding an old post with this tag. Well I guess that's why there's a BETA sign next to the logo.

My previous post was short and straight to the point. And so were the comments. This time I went through my full train of thought for Steem Whales. I'm crossing my fingers for it to reflect in the comments and that I can get dozens of contructive feedback or new feature ideas, so that we can all improve the steem ecosystem hand-in-hand.

Did you find a way to be able to list the technically best curators? Thanks.

What is your criteria for technically best curators? If you're optimizing for performance, I suppose you could rank each user by (x/SP), where SP is their total steam power, and x is the average steem earned from curation in a given period (ie. past 7 days).

Very great website, great work !!!!

User friendly, i like e GUI. Thanks a lot @heimindanger for making this website. Thumbs UP!

Cool site, but it would even cooler if there were column with VESTS per account.

This is fantastic! Thank you! I was hoping to build something just like this, but you did a much better job than I ever would. It's beautiful and really functional. What a great tool!

@heimindanger: question, I was confused as to why it doesn't match up with what I see on the richlist on steemd. I noticed jamesc, for example, wasn't there. When I searched for him, I saw this message:

Not found! If the username indicated truly exists, it will be added within the next 2 minutes.

Does that mean only accounts with activity show up here?

Thanks again! You built a great tool I'll be using often.

Yep, it is now added. At the moment the website only tracks people that are active. Anyone with 0 post and 0 comments will be hard to find for it, just search it manually and it will add quickly.

Yeah, I just figured that out as well. Thanks! I was thinking I'll go through the top 500 and add any that are missing. :)

Actually you know what, I didn't know about the rich list before! I will add all the people in this list, probably go over 10k tracked users!

Also LOL about that comment plagiarism guy

@heimindanger: ah, okay. I was actually just about to write a little bash/curl script to do it, but if you're on it, I'll leave it to you. :)

And yeah, seriously. LOL indeed.

What do you use to determine the value of 1 STEEM?

I'm using the value of the steemit market for the rate. https://steemit.com/market
And estimated value = sbd + rate * (steem + steem_power)

So I guess the Estimated Value is in SB$ ?

I see. In theory, 1 SBD = 1 USD so this should be the same as estimated account value in USD. Right now though SBD is trading at ~28% premium (on Poloniex).

Thanks! Steamwhales.com is a great service. It's fun checking out my own stats, and I'm super curious to see how they change over time (but was too lazy to set up an excel sheet to track every day).

You'll certainly be getting my traffic.

Thanks for Steem Whales @heimindanger. I love your site and use it all the time to check my progress or better yet see other Steemians. The only issue is that when I bookmark my username it does not "work" because my value is a moving target for example:

http://steemwhales.com/?p=139&s=total&hl=coinz

Tomorrow or even in the next few hours my ranking will go up or down off of page 139.

Small inconvenience. You site is GREAT!

very good info! thanks @heimindanger

thanks , @heimindanger

Great job, man! Thanks.

Great site!
Better have some charts of top X accounts, pie or something.
Are "Post Rewards" and "Curation Rewards" include full historical data?

No I don't have full historical data. Only for the past few days. I would be interested in adding everything since start. Any idea how I could get it?

I mean, on the first day of your data, @ned has so many rewards already, but increment is not so much in the next days, so the first-day-data must have included historical data, doesn't it?

The website only looks at the get_account database api, and stores the values. I haven't stored any content or vote to know who gets how much rewards, just looking hourly the get_account api, and storing in a db. Since the data importer for the website has only been running for a week now, that's why you only see 7 days.

If we wanted to see earlier than 7 days, we would need to setup a node with the api enabled, and slowly play out the blockchain day by day, while storing daily records in a database.

Sorry if i'm not anwering your question correctly but i'm having abit of trouble understanding it.

Charts make everything better

This is awesome. One surprising thing about the data: only 8 of 25 whales are holding STEEM dollars.

Any ideas why that's the case? Are whales converting STEEM dollars they earn into STEEM power?

I think its the case for all users.
Steem Dollars don't do much. They take 1 week to convert into STEEM.
You need STEEM to power up. You need STEEM to trade for bitcoin or something else.
Steem Dollars are only useful for sending memos to people, there isn't much point to keeping them I think ;)

so most people instantly convert STEEM Dollars to STEEM when they get paid out?

Thank you so much for steemwhales.com,

? Is there any way to trace time over 2 months , instead of just 3 days ???

Plz understand I am new here and very unfamilar with your 'whales' website... thanks...

Website opened very recently. You will be able to trace over 2 months in about 56 days ;)

thank you so much, i am launching a basic steem resources navigation hub in a few days; just links and info within a transferable spreadsheet generic document program...

steemians.com is the future sites handle...

In what units is displayed Post Rewards and Curation Rewards?

Hello and thankyou for the app website !!!
How often does the program 'go shopping' for my latest statistics ?
Ultimately (at the moment as the program is currently built) so how many days will it display???
Just my opinion, i think the Day setting should reflect a midnight result and the now the result at 9am or 3pm what latest time is.
?
Across i think last 14 days, then the earliest results drop to prior weeks, months years etc...
eg : 2016 / 2017 / jan18/ feb 18/ mar 2018/ and if the date was 22april 2018 then the 14 days preceeding that 22 april date...

just my thoughts and again thank you i love your program...
hugz/

It is currently set to refresh every stats every hour.

The history snapshots are taken at midnight (london time).

It's going to display day by day for the past 30 days. Then I will make a month-by-month, that will probably be good until we need year-by-year.

You are so awesomely helpful and talented, again I thank you.
As your website is not primarily income based / supported if the hourly refresh causes bandwidth or other costs. Maybe just the daily refresh and a mention to people to manually refresh as they need during the day.
Regardless love your website; it is so helpful, it has taught me a lot. Cannot await your next app...
/hugz ;)

Epic stuff! @heimindanger

awesome website, your website inspired me to to do a post on how to become a whale, feel free to check it out :D
https://steemit.com/steemit/@behfar/tutorial-how-to-become-a-whale-the-big-reveal-pun-intended

Thank you for your work! Some of these stats have been something I've followed manually on my account and now you have saved me from that trouble!

Let's hunt the whales. -)

@elargroup: Wow, dude. Straight up comment plagiarism? You copied my comment here word for word.

@heimindanger: the reason it didn't make sense is because it's not even a comment about what you built. Insane what some people think they will get away with.

Only the actual website is in php, it's just showing the info. Hard work is done in node.js. I'll put it on github probably soon.

Your comment makes me doubt that you even used the website. Or maybe it's not obvious enough? You can click on table collumns to sort by anything you said (including curation / posting rewards).

If you click on a username, it takes you to a page with his graphs for anything (except post counts, but it will come).
