"What would you do if you could have your own whale token"? What would I do indeed? This is the current challenge put forth by @OfficialFuzzy to the WHALESHARES community (and anyone else that cares to participate).

A Contest That Harnesses The Power Of Our Imagination!!!

Before I get into the hypothetical details of my wished up token (MENTORSHARES!), I want to encourage you to investigate WHALESHARES. Would it be nice to earn a token that you can use to call a Whale? You select one of your Steemit posts, and the Whale comes and upvotes it? That's exactly what WHALESHARES do.

Now Introducing My Imaginary Token.....(Drum Roll Please).....MENTORSHARES!!!

What On God's Green Earth Are MENTORSHARES?

Now I'll admit that WHALESHARES is a pretty good idea as is BEYONDBit, but you haven't heard of MENTORSHARES yet.

In its simplest form, MENTORSHARES is a way to reward the people who go out of their way to help other members of Steemit. But MENTORSHARES isn't afraid to blast off and out of Steemland. Any holder of MENTORSHARES can also use them to help people in REAL WORLD CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

EXAMPLES:

  1. Mentors can be anyone, but people who head up Steemit communities come to my mind. People like @Jaynie, who started and leads the @Steemitbloggers group or @Derekrichardson of @SoCalSteemit. @Scrooger, @EwkaW, and the entire moderator team over @Qurator make more fine examples. There are so many others I'm leaving out and I hope they don't take offense. MENTORSHARES would fight for you all. These leaders work hard to help other Steemians, and often still have to write their own posts to earn Steem.

  2. In the outside world we never have enough shining examples of humanity and leadership. We rarely have the means to reward such people for their selfless acts. French police officer Arnaud Beltrame comes to mind, who traded his life for those of hostages in the French Marketplace shooting. What if Steemians could reach out and help his family? With MENTORSHARES, we could.

MENTORSHARES Sounds Complicated - How Would It Work?

The challenge by @OfficialFuzzy only calls to answer what your Whale Token will do, but I'll go into some of his other queries. Questions like, "How would it be distributed?", " Would it need to be purchased? or could it be earned?", and "Would you build a community around it? Or would it be a stand-alone token?" all deserve an answer!

How Would MENTORSHARES Be Distributed? Communities & Voted Committees Are The Answer

MENTORSHARES answers two questions with one stone by having a community vote. Therefore, MENTORSHARES would not be a stand-alone token.

The community would be responsible for nominating and voting in comittee members. This would be a rotating position so that any interested community members might have the opportunity to participate.

It would be the committee's task to run contests and challenges on Steemit with MENTORSHARES as the reward. These would encourage the posting of articles that highlight the interests of MENTORSHARES. People sacrificing to help other people. The committee would also seek out Steemians and projects worthy of distribution and reward them accordingly.

Would People Be Able To Purchase MENTORSHARES?

Nope! You can't buy what only self-sacrifice can bring. Once you have earned MENTORSHARES, however, do with them what you will. Turn them into BitShares and cash them out, HODL, exchange them for another coin or give them away. The only thing you can't do is use BitShares to obtain them.

How Would MENTORSHARES Be Funded?

Here's the last question and one that @OfficialFuzzy didn't ask. It's the one that could actually help take MENTORSHARES from an idea to a reality. That, some expertise, and a community of willing participants.

MENTORSHARES would be funded in part by Whales within the Steemit platform. The cause is right and just. The potential for world publicity could bring untold investors to Steemit.com and the BitShares Decentralized Exchange.

Finally and once again, MENTORSHARES won't stop by only accepting donations from Whales on Steemit. It's time to reach the rest of the world cause, "It's a small world after all".

Governments can invest in MENTORSHARES to aid their own communities. Teachers, Nurses, First Responders, and so many others deserve the support of MENTORSHARES. Wealthy altruistic philanthropists can donate with the secure knowledge that their money will make a difference. For if you don't have the time to give, you want to be sure your donation is making a difference. That's why you worked so hard to become wealthy anyway, isn't it?

Not to mention, every difference that MENTORSHARES makes will have a recording on the Steemit or BitShares blockchain. There will also be hundreds of blogs (and counting) where investors can read about the differences their donations are making. Both inside the Steemit community, and as it relates to Steemians helping people in the outside world.

I always prefer people earning them. To me they are kind of like dkp :P

Nice @fuzzyvest! Thanks for stopping by. You had me on the run trying to figure out the slang.

I need to write a post about all the internet language, for myself as much to help others. :P

Dragon Kill Points? Haha, that's awesome. I never got far enough along in EQ to earn any. :):)
