1. Brief Introduction of Whateos
1.1 About Whateos
Hi, welcome to the EOS community! Whateos is a non-profit EOS community that aims to become the democratic node with the highest security and stability and the most powerful EOS super node in Oceania. Whateos team consists of different parts, including department of platform development, department of on-chain and off-chain wallet, security department and other world-renowned cryptocurrency communities. In order to build a highly effective, stable and secure server, the team will take a multi-regional and step-wise development approach to build the node with high security. It means that this node will not be influenced by external factors such as wars, politics and environments, and it is entitled to offer a multi-dimensional and high security space during the development of EOS ecosystem.
1.2 Community Size
Whateos, which is a united node, is supported by multiple communities. It also makes efforts to promote the development of EOS ecosystem. We already have more than 300,000 registered customers from Hyper Pay wallet and more than 40, 000 fans from social media (e.g. Wechat) and financial media. We are confident that those thousands of fans will participate in Whateos community. 3.1 Spirit and Concept
We think we should take in variety ideas and advices of people from different race, class and religious during the construction of Whateos community. Whateos encourages every member from the community to take part in the course of constructing as a part of a foundation of development. From beginning to end, we will take the satisfaction of community members as the first criterion for verifying the effectiveness of community development, and truly achieve a community with a decentralized mindset.
3.2 Future Plan
We firmly believe that the upgrade of the EOS ecosystem is able to deliver a win-win situation, and this is the ultimate goal we are pursuing. With the help of the core technical team, we will provide first-class node services as well as a secure and stable dApps develop platform. We will fully deduct all operating surpluses into continuous development activities to maximize community upgrades and achieve multiple win-win results for the EOS ecosystem.
3.3 Finance and Auditing
The Whateos team is deeply aware of an open transparent regulation of Finance and Audit can promote community development in the long run. We will try our best to solve the conflict between community and node.
We will disclose the financial report on the Whateos community in the near future to assure the reliability and trustworthiness of our financial status. Before that, we will try to satisfy the real-time queries of community participants. At the same time, we will employ third-party financial auditing department (e.g. Big Four) to conduct quarterly and annual financial status reviews. Each audited financial report will be posted on our official website (http://whateos.com) for checking by every member of the community.

5. Security
5.1 Security Design
After a series of discussions and debates, Whateos team has decided that the community will adopt a hybrid cloud security architecture to ensure the stability of community servers.
Based on our design, a fully-fledged system would consist of multiple 1st level load balancers located in different continents. From there, all requests will be rerouted to local VPC cluster with WAF protection to filter malicious payload. The 2nd level LB will distribute the work to dedicated BP nodes. A multi-mension security framework will ensure the safety of the BAU of our BP node clusters.
In detail, our current security design consists of following features:
Security posture monitoring
Security situation awareness monitoring:
Real-time threat intelligence gathering, monitoring hacking activities, security exploitation, CPU usage, RAM usage, API status and more.
Security incident response
Have security incident response playbook, identifying procedures to ensure service continuity.
Dedicated security specialists to form 24 x 7 around clock response team.
Disaster recovery
Deploy multi-region, hybrid cloud DR sites, achieving Local Disaster Recovery. Using tier 6 disaster recovery solution (PPRC and XRC).
BP server cluster and server security
- High spec dedicated node server clusters in VPC environment.
- Whitelist IP restrictions
- Port restrictions
- Firewall
- IDS and IPS protection
- DDOS protection
- Nessus vulnerability continuous scanning using CVE matching database engine and network setting audit
- HA configuration
- Security auditing
5.2 Technology Planning
Whateos server infrastructure oriented around security and availability.
Expected Location of Servers:
Our current plan is to utilise three major geolocations in ASIA PACIFIC region using hybrid cloud architecture to avoid geo-political obstacles. We will not be exclusively running servers in one single country for security and availability purpose.
Please note that our architecture design will keep evolving during the implementation phase. The current project plan for server implementation has multiple trenches and stages in building our server infrastructure.
Type of Servers:
There are three main stages in technology planning.
In stage 1:
We will build a MVP in Australia using Alicloud Asia Pacific SE2 (Sydney) Zone A.
In stage 2:
We will promote China [Alicloud China East 1 (Hangzhou) availability] zone and Singapore [Alicloud Singapore availability zone] online to support “Whateos” to be qualified as the block producer.
In stage 3:
We will involve the evaluation of the existing implementation and bring additional bare-metal server centers online as needed. These bare-metal servers will be distributed across other regions around globe to deliver high speed connection to our BP service. Regions include US, UK, South Africa are in our evaluation plan. In addition, these bare-metal servers will help to reduce the risks of being centralized in one PaaS provider.
During implementation, we would have multiple trenches to implement the system ready to run as EOS block producer. Trench 1 would be our testnet and initial BP node, this will be implemented on Alicloud web services as our basic set up. Once trench 1 is tested and running as expected, we will bring additional nodes online in trench 2. Trench 3 is adding VPN network and load balancer that expands our capability as elected EOS BP.
Our security architecture framework will be updated regularly with the system architecture to reflect on any further changes to the system. To maintain a transparent operation, any maintenance or development progress will be announced to the community. The source code of our implementation will be opensource on GitHub and thus allowing users to raise issues and track changes.
5.3 Hardware Planning
Technical specification by June 3 2018:
BP nodes:
3 x Alicloud ECS (Local SSD Type i2, ecs.i2.4xlarge)
1 x SLB:
1 x VPN, 1 x WAF, 1 x DDOS
*our initial MVP setup does not expect a high user volume before or soon after launch of EOS main net. The additional servers will be provisioned close to activation date to compensate the increase in volume.
Technical specification after June 3 2018:
Multiple Local SSD Type i2,ecs.i2.8xlarge across different regions
SLB:
Additional DDOS and Kubernetes container specifications will be selected as the situation requires.
Further local server bare-metals set up will mimic the same set up in cloud, however, specific price will vary based on charges of local supplier and local data center providers.
