What exactly is the reason you love #STEEM?

I have been reading good things about #steem.. posts and comments.. and I can't figure out what steem really is. I arrived here because I am doing content marketing for my blog and a friend said I should try steem. He didn't told me what it is. I was looking for an about page when I signed up, but for some reason i couldn't find it, and i still cannot find it after signing up.
