Popular messaging application WhatsApp will soon introduce payment in India. WhatsApp has received permission from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to enter into partnership with multiple banks to allow users to make in-app payments and money transfers using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) by end of 2017. Many banks have shown interest to associate with the new payment system.
WhatsApp has more then 200 million users in India and if this payment system is implemented successfully, it will pave a new way for Indian government's focus of implementing digital India.
Google, Uber and Amazon are also testing the unified payment interface (UPI) in India.
