Chow Mein on a workbench SMWS whisky with Montecristo 1935 Lînea series Leyenda

in whisky •  6 years ago

I had this at the whisky tasting event I wrote about previously (https://partiko.app/yippeekaiyay/smws-insanely-drinkable-with-montecristo-1935-lnea-series-maltes-ezqapn1d?referrer=yippeekaiyay).

SMWS "CHOWMEIN ON A WORKBENCH" SINGLE CASK SCOTCH WHISKY

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society come up with some funky names. For me, chowmein is the fast-food of choice for my people and until recently workbenches were a thing of luxury for the proliteriate. I have no idea how a scotsman thinks of these names and even less capacity to imagine what thoughts or feelings Chowmein would bring up, let alone on a workbench. In any case you would think that any whisky with such an elaborately working class name would be special, and yes it is special. Not special enough that I would review it before the SMWS Insanely Drinkable (of which I bought a bottle) but here I am.

There is exceptional citrus fruitiness and some mossiness (as in smells like moss, or something akin to the smell of a freshly moved lawn) on the nose but the cask strength is pungent and unavoidable. The taste bears out the nose with additional nutty and oaky flavours. A solid Highland whisky to start the tasting experience.

MONTECRISTO 1935 LÎNEA SERIES LEYENDA

I've reviewed this cigar previously (https://partiko.app/yippeekaiyay/an-cnoc-24yo-smws-surf-and-snowboard-and-montecristo-linea-1935-leyenda?referrer=yippeekaiyay) and chose it because its such a wonderful cigar that I thought would last me through to the end of the tasting event (it didn't, I ended up having 3 cigars over the course of evening..... A very fun night indeed). It wasn't a great match with the whisky, but it was good enough. No harsh clashes of flavour between the smoke and the whisky, with the citrus winning over the leathery bittersweetness of the cigar only slightly, however nothing really excelling to the point of recommendation.
