I was fortunate enough to attend a SMWS (Scotch Malt Whisky Society) whisky tasting event at the Cohiba Atmosphere in Bangkok last night. I had a little too much to drink and have been recovering/suffering for the better part of the day. Still, a very enjoyable event and met some wonderful people.
SMWS INSANELY DRINKABLE SINGLE CASK SCOTCH WHISKY
This was the 3rd bottle of the tasting of 5. I liked it so much I bought a bottle, had and shared some, and left the rest for future visits. The whisky is from the Aberlour distilkary and tastes very close to the Aberlour A'bunadh but slightly lighter colour. Rich vanilla honey and floral notes on the nose, it rolls around in the glass as if in slow motion, thick and lustrous. The taste follows the nosing with additional taste of raisins and oak. A great whisky.
CIGAR PAIRING - MONTECRISTO 1935 LÎNEA SERIES MALTES
This cigar, slightly larger than a robust in size, is the baby brother of the Leyenda which I really enjoyed. The cigar is wonderful and has the same flavour profile as the Leyenda (here is the link to my review of the Leyenda if you're interested : https://partiko.app/yippeekaiyay/an-cnoc-24yo-smws-surf-and-snowboard-and-montecristo-linea-1935-leyenda?referrer=yippeekaiyay). What was really amazing was the pairing, one of those rare occasions where 1+1 makes 3. Mixing the smoke and the whisky created a whole other different and exquisite flavour, reminding me of that fatty aftertaste when eating wagyu steak. This is one of those rare pairings that work amazingly well together. I let a few others try the experience and they also agreed with my assessment.
