The Problem
The global climate crisis is racing to a climax, and we are not ready for it. While the crisis has many factors that play a role in its exacerbation, there are some that warrant more attention than others. Here are some of the biggest environmental problems of our lifetime. Scientists and environmentalists have urged policymakers for years to increase the price of activities that emit greenhouse gases (one of our biggest environmental problems), the lack of which constitutes the largest market failure, for example through carbon taxes, which will stimulate innovations in low-carbon technologies. To cut emissions quickly and effectively enough, governments must not only massively increase funding for green innovation to bring down the costs of low-carbon energy sources, but they also need to adopt a range of other policies that address each of the other market failures.
The Possible Solution
In steps Whole Earth Foundation. This Foundation is directing its attention on all infrastructure & environment-related projects around the world, especially on water topics, but potential uses of the platform extend far and beyond water infrastructure. It intends to leverage on its Whole Earth Access.
Whole Earth Access
The project proposes to utilize the Whole Earth Access (WEA) platform to connect general citizens (or information providers) and infrastructure service providers by providing access to a database containing detailed information about their infrastructure, and an ecosystem designed to facilitate communication and collaboration
Whole Earth Foundation (Singapore) and Nippon Chutetsukan K.K (Head office: Tokyo, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuichi Kusaka) have agreed to launch a joint PoC project to develop a digital asset database for environmental infrastructure.
Whole Earth Access (WEA) comprises the following three key groups:
- Information Providers
Information providers (mainly general citizens) can access the environmental database and contribute data to earn utility tokens. - Infrastructure Service Providers
Infrastructure service providers can utilize the environmental database and tools created by third-party developers to improve development projects’ efficiency. - Partners
Partners can access the environmental database to develop novel tools that benefit the infrastructure and the environment, help publicize our project and vision to the world, and much more.
Ecosystem Governance
The WEF’s mission is to “Democratize Infrastructure Management,” and it aims to bring about social change through citizens’ participation. Therefore, we believe that it is vital to have a significant portion of tokens allocated for the ecosystem. These tokens will be distributed out to the ecosystem participants in exchange for their efforts and contributions towards the growth of the environmental database. The WEC token is based on the Ethereum platform because of its Smart Contract capability tools. Also the project will actively search for a governance structure that better supports our goals and consider
factors such as scalability and overall environmental impact.
Participants will earn a blockchain-based token (Whole Earth Coin, hereafter WEC) for the provision of high-quality data, enabling a free and open marketplace that allows for the creation and efficient exchange of important data.
