Wicked people in the Bible: There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife. Genesis 20:11

After the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Book of Genesis in the Bible tells us that Abraham moved to the Negev region. There, Abraham met the King of Gerar, Abimelech.
And the Bible tells us that as Sarah, the wife of Abraham, was very beautiful, he presented her as his sister, because Abraham was afraid that they would kill him to keep his wife. Abraham assumed that the people of the region had no fear of God and so he behaved in a very cunning way.
But God tells us the Bible was presented to Abimelech in a dream so that he would not sin by taking Sara as his wife. And so Abimelech called Abraham because of his attitude and Abraham answered him: "I said to myself, ´There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife´". Genesis 20:11.
Abraham did not act with bad intentions, simply as the Bible tells, he said to Abimelech a half-truth, but a cunning attitude brought him a serious inconvenience. This story of Abraham allows us to draw many conclusions. The fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability.
This spiritual gift, the fear of God, is one of the most important spiritual gifts in the Bible, because this gift is the origin of wisdom and common sense that is so necessary to take a course in life. When Abraham thought that the people of the country he had entered had no fear of God, what he thought was that these people were wicked, hard-hearted, and acting against all common sense. It was logical that in a situation of this type, that is, dealing with strangers, Abraham would take his precautions, because as the Bible teaches us:
"To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
to the pure you show yourself pure,
but to the devious you show yourself shrewd" Psalm 18:25-26.
This shows us that in a world given over to sin, one cannot open one's heart to strange people and be completely sincere, because sometimes the need to take care of one's life, as in the case of Abraham, makes it necessary to be cunning.
