THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 27 – CANE TOAD

in wild-man •  7 years ago

I’ve never found a toad this big before, but I guess everything is bigger in Texas!

The Cane Toad (Rhinella marina) is a huge species of toad that reaches lengths of up to ten inches. It gets its common name from the fact that it was introduced to certain areas to help control the pests in sugar cane fields.

With the ability to lay thousands of eggs coupled with their rather unrestricted diet, the Cane Toad can take over an area. Not only will they eat living animals including reptiles, amphibians, rodents and even birds, but they will also eat various plants, dead material, dog food and even garbage.

If you want to learn more about them, including why some people lick them, you’ll have to check out the video. Enjoy!

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

Hi, im new on steemit. This is my 2nd comment and you are so cool.

Welcome! Steemit is the place to be!

He's awfully cute, although I wouldn't want to lick him! I remember seeing one of these toads in New Mexico, although at the time I didn't know what it was called. I saw something hop out of the corner of my eye and expected to see a rabbit but instead was the biggest toad I'd ever seen in my life!

Once my finger grabbed the frog! I screamed=)))

That is one big toad!!! I never saw any when I was in Texas (probably a good thing).

Nice

Great animals as always. Thanks. Upvoted. Resteemed.

That's gigantic! I appreciate the size comparison; I'm surprised they didn't try to hop away.

That is a huge toad! I can not imagine licking it, but just for fun I would hold it and feel their slimy skin. It would be interesting experience.

If that toad was a psycadellic toad! Hahaha

Yup, it is.

This animated video explains the life of Australian cane toads very well.

Yep, this thing is huge. Good find. Had no idea a toad would eat living animals. Officially learned something new today.
