Wildflower series ~ Aromatic plants

The wildflowers are making a brief comeback...

We're getting deeper into autumn and most of the flowers and fruits have finished so there isn't much to see except grass. The exceptions are the very aromatic plants, which bloom at this time of year. This local plant is used traditionally as incense and people burn the dried plant in their houses. If you crush the fresh leaves, the smell is refreshing and somewhat sage-like and definitely improves the atmosphere.

It's a Helichrysum species, possibly Helichrysum melanacme but these sort of plants are universally referred to as Imphepho
