A female blackbird checking out the pond
The Blackbird feeding for tiny insects along the pond wall.
The Blackbird is a Dapper little bird. I love the way they feed for worms. First the run up and down the garden making a noise like falling rain with their feet. The worms hear the noise and come to the surface for fear of drowning and as the pop above the soil the blackbird grabs them and slowly pulls them out of the ground. They know just how much tension to put on the worms so as not to snap them
This time of year Blackbirds will be building nests for the first clutch of the season. They usually build nests in garden bushes but sometimes in strange places and lay four to five eggs. Through the year they may have one or two more clutches depending on weather.
