Kookaburra

in wildlife •  7 years ago

Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo, native to Australia and New Guinea. The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call. The laughing Kookaburra is instantly recognisable in both plumage and voice, it's generally off-white below, faintly barred with dark brown, and dark brown on the back and wings. They are a gorgeous bird to watch and I think they're visually, quite amusing.
