Infant Chimp Snatched And Cannibalized Moments After Birth

The second highest ranking chimp of three snatched an infant chimp from his mother and committed the act of cannibalism.

His name is Darwin, and he was second in command at the time he snatched the newborn. Scientists made this horrendous discovery following 21 chimps in the Mountains on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania.

Moments after Dawin ran off with the newborn several other chimps joined him to fill their cravings. A very rare moment caught by scientists. Darwin was followed by scientists the next day and noted he had diarrhea, but they did not find any bones in his excrement.

Devota didn't even get to hold her newborn, all she could do was watch Darwin run off into the bushes on that rainy day. In 2016 she gave birth and a beautiful picture was captured.

Oh. Great photo. Thanks for your sharing.

Infanticide

Oh no. That's awful :( It's important to remember that, while nature is very beautiful, it is also brutal.

haha your picture of a cute baby really scared me thank god it was just a chunk of meat pulled out of its uterus

Spawn kill

HAHAHA

Dark. So dark.

Despite this being so horrendous, I am really quite drawn to animal behaviors like this....

Thanks for the post :)

Chimps are supposedly murderous and gang up on other chimps and have a lot of violent tendencies, second only to humans among primates.. The closely related Bonobos are apprently far more peaceful.. or we believe them to be..

Nice Post,
Thanks for sharing.

That's the reality and that reality is sad. :(
