Giraffes Making It To The 'Critically Endangered' List!

in wildlife •  5 years ago

For the first time, the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species has mentioned two giraffe subspecies as Critically Endangered.

Habitat loss by increasing agriculture, conflicts between humans and wildlife, civil unrest, and poaching for meat, hide, and tails are among the factors for the decrease.

According to the highest statistics available to the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN), giraffe numbers across the mainland dropped by 40% between 1985 and 2015 to just under 100,000 animals.
