This year Wimbledon will be really interesting in men's competition, since RF will try to acquire his 9 title, but competition will be harder than last year, and we can expect very interesting tournament.
Roger won title in Stuttgart, but lost final at Halle tournament, vs. Coric, that could influence his self-esteem at the start of tournament. Nevertheless, he must be valued as first favorite for the title.
Indeed, many players are counting on to beat Roger and try to get title, after six consecutive Grand Slams that are won by Roger and Rafa (Roger won 2x AO and W, Rafa won 2x RF and UO). Hence, here will be mentioned favorites, as per my opinion and chances for the best ranked players.
- Roger Federer has the most chances to win, but it will be very difficult, and I do not think that this will be his tournament
- Rafael Nadal is first on ATP list, but his chances to win Wimbledon are really minor, and I would not count him even as one of top favorites for the title
- Novak Djokovic had good pre-tournament week at Queens, and could be nice surprise and complete comeback at All England Club, he is within top five favorites for sure
- Alexander Zverev had great clay season, but only QF in Paris, and first-round upset but later winner Coric at Halle, he should be counted as one of second week players to beat last year R16
- J. del Potro does not have many success on the grass surface, and he will be happy to improve last year R64
- Marin Cilic has great pre-tournament week at Queens, last year finalist is maybe one of the first favorites this year, I will count him at top three, for sure
- from the rest of the crew, I would mention:
- Kyle Edmund, that has bad last appearance and R64, but could be good for QF or more
- Nick Kyrgios, that has two semifinals this year on grass (Stuttgart and Queens), and could be nice surprise
- Borna Coric, that won Halle over Federer, to prove his good form and good score against top ten players
- Andy Murray, that is back on the track, but could not see him above QF
Who do you think could make history this year? I bet on croation duo Cilic and Coric.
You were right about Federer but Nadal is still in it. I hoped to see a Nadal Federer final, on the 10th anniversary of the best final I have seen.
Watched 10 hours of tennis today, the Isner vs Anderson match was crazy.
