Windows 95 is now executable as an application (with also DOOM and Wolfenstein3D)

Windows 95 has long since become an operating system used for porting and emulation of various kinds, and some time ago the developer Felix Rieseberg has decided to release a version of Windows 95 running through Electron, or through a Web browser. Rieseberg has now released version 2.0 of its Windows 95, which includes many new features - including the arrival of many historical games.

The new version makes use of a completely revamped system image, which also includes Microsoft FrontPage, Netscape 2.0 and FrontPage Server. Among the new software included in the image we also find games: Doom, Wolfenstein3D, A10 Tank Killer and Grand Prix Circuits are playable as they were at the time on real machines.

Thanks to the use of Electron, Windows 95 2.0 is available on all three major platforms (Windows, MacOS, Linux). The problems currently present are two: the first represents the limited resolution of the games and the non-rescaling of content, which makes it almost impossible to play; secondly, despite the large power available on the machine running Windows 95 2.0 for testing, the system still appears slow to respond to commands.

Although it still has some problems, Windows 95 2.0 is perfectly enjoyable and represents a plunge into the pleasant past. You can download the installation package on the Rieseberg GitHub Page
