Drive C on the computer serves to install the Windows operating system, while for Drive D or E it may contain your data from the outside. And for Drive F or G for USB. But it never occurred to you why the drive does not start with the letter A or B?

To find out the answer, of course not separated from the beginning of the development of computers. By the time the computer was first developed, the capacity of the internal storage device was not as big as it is now. Conversely, the computer used to use floppy disk drive or more we know as a floppy disk.

Quoting from the scoopwhoop.com site, the first drive on the computer was called A. Floppy Disks that had two sizes, namely 5 1/4 and 3 1/12.

So, the letters A and B have been acquired by floppy disks or floppy disks. It was not until the late 1980s that hard drives became the standard of every computer.

The hard drive is then labeled with the letter C that is used to store the computer's operating system.
As the times progressed, the floppy slowly began to be abandoned until it was not used anymore until now.

That's the origin of why in Windows, the name of the drive begins with the letter C, not A or B.
