Wine Selection & Review: Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon (California)

Last night I enjoyed one of my new favorite wines with dinner: Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon.

I first picked this up last week when it went on sale for $8.99 USD. It normally retails for $12-13, so at this price, it was worth a shot. We have been selling quite a bit of this label this fall, so it had already caught my eye.

The label is simple in its design. A pleasing beige background featuring a line across the middle, a reference to the 39th parallel that dissects the vineyard where this wine is grown. A California Cabernet, this winery is located in the Fresno valley, the heart of agriculture in the western United States.

The wine pours an inky purple into the glass, aromas of plum escaping from underneath the cork as it's opened. The first sip is smooth, velvety; gentle tannins on the palate. Fruity flavors of plum and blackberry rule without an overwhelming sweetness. Line 39 rests smooth and soft in the mouth; slightly dry and not bitter at all.

The popular wine app Vivino (free!) rates this wine a 3.7 and I would agree. It his a sensational value at $9 and still quite reasonable at the regular price.

I enjoyed this bottle with a ham steak and I would say that it pairs well with pork or other mild flavored red meats. The taste is somewhat reserved so be careful not to overwhelm this wine with anything too spicy or bold. All in all, a nice bottle to take out when value is the word of the day.

Cheers!

Nice review. Is it the sort of wine that will improve after a few years or just a drink now one?

Thanks! Trying to get a few different types of posts in other than just all sports betting. lol

This is a "drink now" kind of wine. It will keep nicely for a year, or two, but there's not much benefit in aging it for longer.

I'll be doing more reviews like this. I have a great Bordeaux I'll be posting about tonight or tomorrow. (And that one WILL get better over time...)
